    East Rutherford 3 Owen 2

    East Rutherford was down 2-0 with 2 outs in the 4th when Christopher Wittimore laid a perfect bunt down the line. Freshman Zeke Blanton then hit a game-tying 2 run homer off of Owen's Steven Hensley. The score stayed tied until ER Sophomore Parker Tate hit a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 7th off of Hensley to send the Cavs to the 2nd round.

    ER - 26-2 (Win total ties school record)

    Leading Hitters : Z. Blanton - 1-3, HR (2), 2 RBI
    P. Tate - 1-2 HR (1)
    C. Flack - 1-3
    J. McKracken 1-3
    C. Wittimore 1-3
    Leading Pitchers : Garland Jones 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R
    C. Wittimore 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R WIN (10-1)

    East plays North Henderson, 3-2 winners over West Wilkes, Friday at East.

    The #1 and #2 ranked 2A teams will square off Friday night against the 2 Henderson County teams. West Henderson @ West Caldwell and North Henderson @ East Rutherford.

    Sounds like it was a great game ! Who does ER graduate besides Flack ? Looks like they have plenty of ammo to reload for next year.

    Richlands 6 - S.Columbus 5
    Richlands scored one in the bottom of the 7th to win, after SC had scored two in the top to tie it. Richlands will play at Pasquotank on Thur.

    East Duplin 10 - East Columbus 9
    E.Duplin scored early and held off a EC rally to win at Lake Waccamaw. ED will play Clinton.

    East Rutherford currently starts 8 seniors (3 of who have already signed, and at least 2 more who will play somewhere) and 1 freshman (Blanton). But there are a couple of freshmen and sophomores who have seen significant time this year and the JV team was 22-1, so although they will be young next year, they shouldn't slip too much, then should be very strong in 2006 and 2007.

    Hensley and Owen was not a typical #1 vs #3 seed game. When Hensley is pitching, Owen is as good as anybody in the West. We clocked him at 91 early last night, and he threw consistent 86-88. He is about 6'1 and only a junior. He just made a couple of mistakes that ER was able to capitalize on.
