4A Whoever wins when Butler and Central Cabarrus meet. My pick right now would be Butler just because the are a little better offensively. CC is a little better defensively. Should be a great matchup if and when these two meet. My sleeper pick would be Myers Park simply because they have the states best pitcher in O'conner

I go along with you in the 4A. I disagree that Butler has an edge offensively. In fact, I would give that edge to Central. Loads more power. Butler may have more overall team speed. Central travels to Butler in the 2nd round.
    Prediction
    Central 2 Butler 0

3A - Southern Alamance - Brook Isley wil be untouchable in the playoffs
2A - Although Forbush has Angel back, upsets will be the normal in 2A
    1A - East Surry :xyzthumbs
Did not want to cause so much friction. Go Cardinals

Thanks for your restraint and good judgment on letting that slight pass. This is a good thread and I would hate to see it messed up with trash talk. There are more then a few 1A programs that could be strong in any division.
Good luck to ALL divisions. Play hard ladies and have some fun also.
As far as predictions...............I'm not making any. LOL

    Unglued

I realize there are some good 1A teams. After watching the State 1A finals for the last three years, I didn't see the quality of play I thought might be displayed at the highest level. The jump form 1A to 2A is quite a difference. Smaller change from 2A to 3A, and moderate from 3A to 4A. I do not play, but you can drastical see the difference in the depth of players. Does 1A have exceptional players, sure.... But you can come unglues all you want, but you know as well as I do the talent level steps up drastically as the classifications get higher.

I agree Fence....I started to respond last night but decided not get caught up in opinions of who's better. I like to think that each division is unique and exceptional in their own right. I have watched your daughter pitch for a 1A school and she holds a few records of her own. I can also say that she pitched for me in travel ball two years ago and went head to head with what some say is the best pitcher in the state, Meredith. She won one and lost one against her. I had not intended this to be about your daughter when I started writing but its easy to talk about her. I have seen arrogance written here on how great 4A is or how great Central is. I applaud Central's schedule and accomplishments but I also know that as you wrote in an earlier response that both teams tied their shoes one at a time. Central has a great coach and great players but these other divisions have equal talent just not as many on one team. I also will not make any predictions but look forward to the battles ahead.

you are right about the quality but.....
the 85+/- 1A teams that play ball do the best they can with what they got
no pitching coaches, heck lucky to have an assistant coach
lucky to have a batting cage let alone several
    fields that are horrible
may have one or two team bats (from this season)
    may have a catchers glove
part time coaches that may or may not have knowledge of the game or concern for the girls past the seasons last game
tryouts? any body that signs up can play. the ponds are a little smaller to pick the fish from
jv team? if they are lucky
infield and pitcher is probably also starting five in basketball and volleyball too
dont pick up a softball till march 15th or so
but play with the same determination and love for the game that the larger schools do
    and care just as deeply
maybe if you had played the game under less than professional conditions
your tune wouldnt be quite so haughty
    so to all the athletes
    PLAY BALL

and i forgot in the case of 1A Rosman
closest conference opponent 90 minutes each way by bus if weather good
furthest leave school at 11AM for a 4PM game
fortunate to get home by midnight
average 180 miles round trip in the mountains for conference schedule
thats the ingredients for some great ball
    but we perservere
