Curious as to why it works for the boys when their travel teams face the same issues as you state above? Hasn't the date of the State Games been public since the first week in Nov '06?

    I can't speak to that

I know almost nothing about the showcase type baseball tournaments so I can't comment on it. I will say that I have the daughter of the head coach from Wake Forest baseball that plays for me. He has told me that he, along with other college coaches, normally recriut from a select showcase circuit. That's the only thing I know about baseball.

as with other things, changes happen.

OKC for the majority wont matter......exhibiting these underclasswomen with this format does! just my opinion.

    Great point

Hey cardcoach, I am with you on this issue, but the State decides when and where to play. Personally, I think the games should run from Tuesday to Thursday (mid-week) so we could avoid this situation. It makes sense, but that is not my decision to make. I will tell you this, I am going to ask the State Games Adminstration Staff to take a serious look at this situation. All I can do is promise to make the situation known to the people in charge. The games are going to be awesome.

much like the summer college clinics....mid-week, to avoid the scheduling problems with TB Showcasers would make sense but we all know the STATE. NCHS Softball has a voice now and that too is awesome!

It's a great start and agreed, " the games are going to be awesome."

    Answer!

The coach from Kings Mountain is in good standing as a member of the NCFSCA. She however, did not choose to apply for the opportunity to coach in the State Games.

    Thanks Coach S

Thanks Coach S. Like I said earlier, I don't have an issue with the games themselves. I am all for any opportuntiy that a kid could have to play in front of college folks and with other players of equal talent. I would like to see a little more thought put into when games are scheduled and the confilcts they may cause.
We have 2 ASA/USA National qualifiers here in NC to host. I went through great pains to try and accomodate everyone in the region. The late graduations and the HS State took presedence in my decision to schedule these tournaments on the best weekend possible without so many conflicts. I would like the same consideration, as a travel ball coach, when an entity schedules tournaments or games in our season. That's all I'm saying.
CF Ball, I would like to make one comment about ASA qualifiers such as OKC. The actual qualifier may not attract the proper college representation but is necessary to attend the ASA Nationals. The possibility of qualifying for one of the most prestigious travel ball tournaments in the world is well worth the effort. The 16U and 18U USA/ASA Nationals are the "Daytona" so to speak of softball with well over 300 colleges represented. Now, I don't usually get into these discussions on a message board so for now I have said my piece.
I apologize if I offend anyone with my comments and it is definitely not my intent. Just stating some of the feelings that I and other TB coaches across the state are having. Our season is getting squeezed from both ends. Pretty soon there may not be a travel ball season the way it's going.

Coach S- Going to the NCHSAA is the right thing to do in attempting to get the dates changed to midweek. However I really don't think the state will have much sympathy towards travel ball. Recently when Coach Lin Wheeler asked Que Tucker some questions in an interview that was posted on the NCFCA site, he asked her a question that mentioned travel ball. Her response to that question was "she/NCHSAA could not be concerned with travel ball.......". But good luck anyway. If the dates can be changed, that will really make a huge decsion easier for a lot of girls who will feel caught in the middle.

Over the past couple of days I have receieved several phone calls from players from the east and west (seniors and underclassmen) who think they may have the opportunity to be selected. They are VERY concerned and torn about what to do if they are selected. CardCoach2 makes a great point about committments that are made to travel ball coaches by players. I'm sure the HS coaches would not permit players to go play in a travel ball tournament during the high school playoffs and travel ball coaches completely understand.

These girls are equally committed to both sides of this equation. They need to play in the travel ball tournaments for exposure and team qualifications purposes and then the state allstar game will give them a chance to represent their school and also possibly get some exposure there as well.

I feel bad because in no way am I going to offer an opinion to these ladies as this is a personal decision between them and their parents. So hopefully you will be successful in getting the state to have a little common sense about the matter. This should not be made into a travel ball vs. high school ball issue. It's about doing the right thing for the girls, period.
    Good luck.- Bmac1
