Geez, don't get your panties in a wad. All I said was let the kid enjoy her once in a lifetime senior trip which is just my opinion and they didn't have to make cuts for the senior games last year which is a fact. I never claimed to have all the answers and I certainly would never claim to know as much as you do about softball with your 2,633 posts and opinion on everything. God forbid I didn't know that the largest showcase in all the east coast kept players from trying out for the senior games. I thought maybe some had a bad taste in their mouth from the previous year and btw I also know that to be true to. Didn't know I was going to be attacked just for not agreeing with the menfolk. Oh and by all means let me add the waiver that my thoughts and opinions are all my own and are not necessarily the thoughts and opinions of my husband.

I am very underrated as a knowledgeable master of the game...but things will change in time----LOL----if you had been reading all along instead of coming on here like a bat out of ####.... you would know that Pop changed the dates of the State Games so that it wouldn't conflict with the Dynamite this year, because kids were torn which one to go to last year...Everything is cool with me....by the way I adjusted my panties...LOL ... Have a great day...... By the way..C below

    love your kid, Guru

Underage drinking law signed, police train

    6/15/2007 5:12:03 PM

A new law is in place tonight that gives harsher punishment to anyone involved in underage drinking. Friday, Governor Mark Sanford signed the law that would increase fines and penalties for underage-drinking offenses. It will make it easier for police to find out who bought kegs at parties where there's underage drinking, and it'll also allow minors to help police by participating in stings. It's estimated there are 186,000 underage drinkers in South Carolina each year.

Law enforcement knows it's a big problem, and they're looking at a new way to tackle an old problem.

Friday, as part of a police training course at Coastal Carolina University, students, most of whom aren't of legal drinking age, pretended they were at a party.

Dave King is one of the police trainers. "In the old days we used to roll up with light and sirens at a party, and everyone would scatter. And what we found that resulted in, was a bunch of intoxicated kids or intoxicated drivers getting in their cars and driving, and that enhanced dangers to the public."

The goal of the training is to teach police officers how to safely break up a party, in a way to show young people how serious and dangerous underage drinking can be.

Police also learned how to spot a fake ID. But trainers say even that won't stop minors from getting alcohol. "Many times they get them right out of mom and dad's refrigerator."

They say stopping underage drinking is still a community problem to solve.

Horry County is in the process of creating an alcohol and tobacco task force to deal with minors using illegal substances.

Haha, I found the medal I won (not my daughter). It was for Miss Congeniality. I wonder if that counts? I'd still take the senior trip! Love ya Shawn.

Avoid sports burn-out and keep young athletes in the game
    UPublish story by hpupino

AKRON, Ohio (March 19, 2009) -- The bases are being groomed for the baseball and softball players and the sprinters, distance runners, long jumpers and other track and field athletes are gathering for their first practices.

But as the spring sports season gets underway, some young athletes will choose to sit out the season and maybe even the rest of their high school years.

Joseph Congeni, MD, director of Sports Medicine at Akron Children's Hospital, is seeing more young athletes with sports burn-out, often around eighth or ninth grade.

These should be the prime years for kids to compete in high school sports, but now, with kids starting organized sports as young as age 5, they often get bored or burned out by the intense level of practice and competition by middle school, said Dr. Congeni.

Several factors contribute to this trend, including the pressure for kids to specialize in one sport and train year-round, recurrent overuse injuries, as well as parents and coaches who push too hard.

Too much emphasis on winning at all costs and working hard for a college scholarship or a spot on an Olympic team can take the fun out of sports for many kids, said Dr. Congeni.

Teenage girls need to have a LIFE other than softball. I know that some of you men would like to believe that your daughter lives, eats, and breathes softball and don't care about the other things, but it just ain't so. My daughter loves softball just as good as the next one but she will tell you herself that she also needs a social life at this age. I talked to her about it just this morning and she said she hasn't cared about getting a medal since she was 10 years old. She plays for love of the game.

I totally agree with this but as Duke has pointed out college coaches at the highest level look for girls who define themselves first as softball players...

I leave it to the board to figure that one out.

It is possible to do both...that is what they call well rounded. I just let my daughter read this thread and her comment was "men are just like boys". I'll leave it to the board to figure that comment out. :N1Lol16:
