How is the weather in Charlotte? Is the State Games East v. West game underway?

Just got home. East wins first game 11-5 and West wins second game 6-3. That's it for High School baseball for these players. I believe that all but two from the East team are committed to continue their baseball careers.

Region 5 wins the Gold Medal

Region 5 won 4 - 2 over Region 6 to bring home the gold medal. Dominate pitching and timely hitting led Region 5 throughout the tournament. In the gold medal game, Region 5 pitchers limited a strong Region 6 lineup to 2 hits on the day. Jordan Ramsey (North Davidson, Canes North 17U, UNCW) started the game for Region 5 and went 3 innings giving up 1 hit and 1 run. Ramsey went 1 - 0 in the tournament. Ryan Mayhew (West Forsyth, Canes North 17U, UNCW) got the win with 3 innings of relief. Mayhew gave up 1 run on 1 hit to go 2 -0 in the tournament. Keaton Haack (Northwest Guilford, Proehlific) pitched 1 inning of no hit ball to get the save. Josh Clark (West Forsyth, Canes North 17U) lead Region 5 at the plate with a 2 run homer. Bradley Morton (Mt. Tabor, South Charlotte Panthers) had a rbi double. Corey Dick of Albemarle HS had both hits for Region 6.

Congratulations to Region 5 on a great tournament!

    Corey Dick

Gotta give props to Corey Dick (no he is not my son). My son played on Region 6 team and I had the pleasure of watching Corey play in the State Games. I was standing with a bunch of dads as Corey put on a great display. He was agile, sweet swinging left handed hitter who by the way went yard over the 390 sign into the middle of the batters eye and made great plays at first base. First time I saw this kid and he really impressed all of us. Congrats to region 5 for winning the championship and their coaches really played to win. Everything they called, they executed and deserved to win. Great event, thanks for allowing our family to enjoy.

Not my son either, but I would sure claim him. A gentle beast. He did have a great tourney. Pitching was tough from all regions. When you have some of the best pitching in the state squaring off against the best hitters in the state, it's always fun. To hold some of these teams to less than five hits is incredible. But when a pitcher missed his spot, several kids went yard...No doubt there were some great players in Charlotte this weekend - and I think Coach Hibbs and staff were pretty busy taking notes.
