From the 4A Cap 6 Friday nite: Wake Forest Rolesville beat Broughton 8-1. They have now won 14 out of their last 15. In the big shocker Leesville upset Wakefield 4-3, giving WakeField 3 losses in conference. The big game Tuesday is Wake Forest and Millbrook at Millbrook. WFR wins and they lock up title. If they lose then they are tied with Millbrook. However, WFR holds the tie breaker for winning the Bobby Murray tournament over Easter. As for the favorites to come out of the East: Be very leary of the Richmond County vs Fuquay Varina 1st round game. I'm telling you Richmond will be ready. That could be the "upset special". Also, I don't think anyone wants to see Wake Forest Rolesville either. One of the "top pitching staffs around" to quote ImpactBB. They have 5 pitchers all throwing 85 plus. Its like watching a D1 pitching staff. 3 Righties and 2 Southpaw's.(2 03's, an 04, and 2 05's.) They got off to a slow start but boy have they come on lately. In 4 of their last 5 games they have thrown a 4 hitter, a 2 hitter, and a couple of 1 hitters. Sounds alot like Fuquay Varina numbers!!! When it gets playoff time my bet is on the teams with deep pitching staffs......thats why i like Fuquay, Garner, and Wake Forest Rolesville in the East.

If they get to face each other, it would be for the Western State Championship game (Round #4) ....

W Henderson has a lot of tough teams to get through to reach that point. They will have to play their best baseball of the year the 1st 3 games to get there. The NC format for baseball playoffs is a real crapshoot. One very good pitcher with his game on can beat you 1-0. We "do" remember that from last yr, lol.
Would be a great matchup though. I remember the Mount Pleasant kids from when we played them as 15 yr olds down in Concord. A very good group of baseball players.

    This just in . . .

    . . . from the Waccamaw 2A -- current standings
    1. S.Columbus
    2. W.Columbus
    3. E.Bladen
    4. E.Columbus
    5. S.Brunswick
    6. Whiteville

So, South Columbus and West Columbus go to the play-offs unless teams 3-6 win the tourney this week.

Also, evidently W.Bladen and Clinton are duking it out for the Tri Six crown -- not sure what has to happen for either to win it, but I understand a tie could take place.

And finally, Wallace-Rose Hill lost to James Kenan last night 2-0, despite WRH's Darrell Dixon tossing a no-hitter. Because Midway was also beaten (by Hobbton), the Bulldogs (of WRH) are conf champs (they beat Midway the first time).

    Got all that???? Good!

    Re: WILD SPECULATION !!!!!

    Update: (*) Spot secured

    Orange (*) vs RJ Reynolds
North Forsyth (*) vs South Meck (*)
    Riverside (*) vs East Forsyth
South Caldwell (*) vs East Meck (*)
Central Cabarrus (*) vs Providence (*)
    Alexander Central/Watagua vs Hopewell
South Rowan (*) vs Chapel Hill (*)
    Myers Park (*) vs Meca 8 #3

    Only mistakes so far:
Chapel Hill over Jordan/Person in the Pac-6 #3
RJ Reynolds over West Forsyth in the CPC
I had McDowell as the other candidate out of the NW4A instead of Watagua

    Notes:
    1. East Meck/Myers Park - they may swap games.
    2. Hopewell may move to the Meca 8 #3 if anyone other than Central Cabarrus wins the Conference Tournament.
    3. Alexander Central and Watagua play each other for this spot.
    4. East Forsyth either needs to win the tourney or have North Forsyth win to claim that game.
    5. Independence/North Meck are still the favorites to claim the 3rd spot in the Meca 8.

CORRECTION: Myers Park has secured the #1 spot, regardless of the outcome of the final game. It seems like they are playing this last one for fun/pride... obtw: Myers Park won over East.

    YET ANOTHER CORRECTION:
    1. The 2nd spot in the NW4A is a matter of external decision.
    2. Since neither Central Cabarrus or Hopewell made it to the conference championship game, Hopewell may become the #3 seed out of the Meca 8. The winner of the North Meck/Indy game will get the #2 seed and a berth against whoever they decide will be the second representative of the NW4A.

Re: Potential 1st Round 3A games in the West

    Update
    SPC #1: Piedmont(*) vs Tri-County #3: Trinity
NPC #1: West Rowan(*) vs Tri-County #2: East Randolph

SPC #2: ??? vs NPC #2: Northwest Cabarrus
    Tri-County #1: Ragsdale(*) vs NPC #3: AL Brown/Mooresville

SWF#1: St Stephens(*) vs MAC #3: Franklin(*)
BS #1: Ashbrook(*) vs MAC #2: TC Roberson(*)

SWF#2: Hickory(*) vs BS #2: East Gaston/East Lincoln
MAC #1: Tuscola(*) vs SWF#3: Crest(*)

    Three Changes:
The SPC situation is confused now... Piedmont is the regular season winner with Weddington in 2nd, but Weddington went down to Concord in a first round game... I believe that Piedmont will have to win the tournament for Weddington to advance.

Crest went by Kings Mountain and RS Central during the last week of the regular season and the conference tournament was cancelled.

The Tri-County, NPC, SPC and Big South Tournaments are still on-going. East Gaston is the leader in the the BS3A if Ashbrook wins the tournament. AL Brown/Mooresville are tied in record .. The conference Tournament starts today. The SPC should be down to a final 2 after today. The Tri-County is in the Semis now...

Only the MAC and SWF3A are decided..........

    Not so wild Speculation

    4A West Brackets

    Update: (*) Spot secured

Orange (*) vs RJ Reynolds (*)
North Forsyth (*) vs South Meck (*)
Riverside (*) vs East Forsyth/Page Winner
South Caldwell (*) vs East Meck (*)
Central Cabarrus (*) vs Providence (*)
McDowell (*) vs North Meck/Independence Winner
South Rowan (*) vs Chapel Hill (*)
Myers Park (*) vs Hopewell (*)

    Notes:
    1. With the #1 & #2 seeds dropping out of the Meca 8, the Tournament will decide the #2 berth. The conference may decide to move the winner into the #3 slot, but I don't think so.

    2. Due to the brawl, McDowell gets the slot in the states.

    3. From the CPC: No word yet on the championship game, but the bracket positions are set. South Rowan and RJ Reynolds.

    4. East Forsyth faces Page tonight to determine the #2 representative out of the Metro 6.

    3A West Brackets

    SPC #1: Piedmont(*) vs Tri-County #3: ???
NPC #1: West Rowan(*) vs Tri-County #2: East Randolph

SPC #2: Weddington/Concord vs NPC #2: Northwest Cabarrus
    Tri-County #1: Ragsdale(*) vs NPC #3: AL Brown/Mooresville

SWF#1: St Stephens(*) vs MAC #3: Franklin(*)
BS #1: Ashbrook(*) vs MAC #2: TC Roberson(*)

SWF#2: Hickory(*) vs BS #2: East Lincoln/East Gaston
MAC #1: Tuscola(*) vs SWF#3: Crest(*)

Results from the Big South 3A: Ashbrook vs South Point and East Gaston vs East Lincoln. Ashbrook defeated South Point and East Lincoln defeated East Gaston in the conference Semi's last night. East Lincoln has to win the tourney to replace East Gaston in the playoffs.

The Tri-County tournament is on-going with Ragsdale a lock in the #1, East Randolph guaranteed a playoff spot in #2 and the #3 spot is up for bid ..... ER and Ragsdale are both still alive in the final 4, so it may default to the #3 team regular season. Trinity cannot advance without winning the tournament (a tall order) since they came into the tournament #5 and are facing Ragsdale tonight. If someone other than Ragsdale/East Randolph wins the tourney, ER can be pushed down to the #3 seed.

NPC is down to it's final 4 with #4 Mooresville facing #1 West Rowan tonight and #3 AL Brown (Kannapolis) facing #2 NW Cabarrus. If Mooresville and AL Brown both bow out tonight, they will have an extra game to determine which team gets the play-off berth.

The SPC is down to it's final 2: #1 Piedmont plays #7 Concord which is coming out of the #7 seed in the tournament, with victories over Weddington and Sun Valley. If Concord wins, they get #2. If Piedmont wins, Weddington gets #2.

    Eastern 4A Projected Brackets

    TOP HALF

MIDEASTERN #2-Ashley/Laney at TWO RIVERS #1-South View
TWO RIVERS #3-Cape Fear at BIG EAST #1-Greenville Rose
BIG EAST #2-DH Conley at TWO RIVERS #2-Purnell Swett
    MIDSOUTHEASTERN #3-Pinecrest at MIDEASTERN #1-Hoggard

    BOTTOM HALF

    CAP 6 #2-Wakefield/Millbrook at TRI ALLIANCE #1-S.Johnston
    MSE # 2-Richmond at TRI-SEVEN #1-Fuquay-Varina
TRI ALLIANCE #2-E.Wake/Garner at MSE #1-Scotland
    TRI-SEVEN #2-Lee Co./Green Hope at Cap 6 #1-WF-Rolesville

NCBBALLFAN, not only is the NPC #3 seed still up for grabs, but there is no guarantee yet that the NPC #2 team will be NW Cabarrus. Just so you'll know, if either Kannapolis or Mooresville would happen to WIN the NPC tournament, then they would "move up" to the #2 seed, and thus the regular season runnerup NW Cabarrus would fall to the #3 seed for the state playoffs.

Otherwise if either frontrunners West Rowan or NW Cabarrus win the tournament, then they will be 1-2, while Kannapolis and Mooresville decide the #3 seed.

We will know a lot more after tonight, if it don't rain.
