    Ashbrook 3-0 over T.C. Roberson

I wish I had more to write on this game but this is all I know.

Ashbrook and Enka play next week at Ashbrook.

    Two Class Acts

Did anyone notice that when the dust settled after the Enka/St. Stephens matchup there were two players crying? SSH's Taylor Queen and EH's Jodi Duncan. I hope both have already recovered emotionally because they are two of the best kids you'll see walk on a softball field.

I've watched Taylor play for three years and there is not a more intense, tougher competitor. She does whatever is necessary to help her team. In the regional final last year versus North Buncombe she practically single handedly willed SSH to a win with gritty pitching, timely hitting and aggressive base running. Her performance tonight did nothing to tarnish her reputation as one of the best players in the state. Simply speaking, she did a great job on the mound (ten innings), hit a home run, continued her hard base running and, for that matter, inspirational play all around. LR got a steal when they snagged her for next year.

Jodi Duncan is cut from the same cloth. While her tears were most likely due to her fear that her errant throw with two outs in the seventh nearly lost the game, the fact is that she made two other superb plays that kept the Jets in the game at crucial times. While credit deservedly goes to EH catcher Casey Moore who made the two throws of her life to second on attempted steals, it was Jodi who not only had the presense of mind and athleticism to make difficult catches, place the tags perfectly AND hold onto the ball, but was first in line to congratulate SSH for a game well played. Had she not made those two huge plays, the game most likely would have had a different ending. Had she not been the leader she is I'm convinced that Enka would not be as good as they are.

In the end, these are two class acts and both warrant a lot of praise for how they play the game and how much they care about their teams.

softball4ever, there was a lot of tears tonight after the game.......... yours included. You ladies fought a hard battle, but came up a little short. I never will forget the reaction in your dugout when the run scored in the top of the seventh inning. Great season for all the ladies at St. Stephens. I enjoyed all the games that I attended this year. Good luck to you, Amber and Taylor as you move on to the next level. Congratulations!

I know that when you ride that emotional rollercoaster during the game that when it is all over something has to give. Cry or not cry doesn't matter. The St. Stevens players could play on any team, any time. I think in this instance it came down to who was the home team. Great bunch of ladies tears or not.

    franklin 3
    forestview-0
    8 innings
C lacey waldroop with a 2 out bases clearing hit
    Great defensive game
forestview loaded bases with no outs once and again in the seventh with I believe one out but could not get a run across
franklin had several runners in scoring position but running miscues and smart defense turned a couple of dp's ending threats
    forestview is a class act
will be back next year i assure you
waldroop called a fabulous game for franklin
    Southern gent- twas a pleasure

    Great Game

I was there as well....Worth the trip again. Hey cometfan I think I am getting there....I'm not getting in the games you are but its not from lack of effort
Like Fence reported. Tight game. Both catchers were on top of their games. Kept the hitters off stride. Scoring chances were there but fine defensive plays or blown opportunities kept the score at zero. Congratulations to Franklin for advancing on to the next round. I love the players and attitude.
roll call again......Fence, southernGent, CfBall, .....
Next game Tuesday at Kings Mountain. :applause:

Hey... does anyone out there know who won in the Kinston and Harnett Central game and in the South Central and Manteo game. They haven't been posted on ihigh.com yet so I was just wondering, especially since we play the winner of the Kinst and HC game.
