    Enka vs Kings Mountain

    Enka 9
    Kings Mountain 6

What a great back and forth game! Congratulations to a very good Enka team for not quitting and coming back in the 7th inning and good luck in the final four.

Also congratulations to our lady Mountaineers on a great season! It has been fun watching a very talented young team!

thanks touchemall...I still can't get over how young your team is....The announcer I believe said there was 4 freshman, 4 sophomores, 1 senior and 1 junior as the flex in the starting lineup....This team will be a factor in the playoffs for the next 2 to 3 years at least....Enka bring back 9 juniors on this team next year...Great game and I enjoyed watching it...

    seniors?

    EnkaJet,
I spoke with one of your nice fans last night and he complemented us and said you guys only had 3 seniors starting. Which of your 3 starters were seniors? With only 3, looks like we might meet again!

It was a great game-one of the most exciting I have ever seen.
The field wasn't the best but the fans weren't that bad-everyone gets caught up in the moment. The game was an important one to both teams.
Kings Mountain has a great young team and they will be back for several years to come.
I am so proud of our Sugar Jets-they never gave up and they pulled together to get the job done. Can't wait to get to Raleigh!
    Happy Birthday, Brittany!!! :laugh1:

    3 seniors

Thanks again .... I am sure that a lot of the fans including myself were upset with some of the calls. What is unfortunate about that is that it takes away from the young student athletes on the field.
Our 3 seniors are shortstop Jodi Duncan, 2b Brittany Shetley, CF Brandi Arrowood. Our 4th senior is Jennifer Warren who can play both third and LF.
The players coming up from JV's are fast and can play defense so they should be just fine again next year. Enka is a young team but nowhere near as young as KM was and what composure for such a young team. I would safely assume they play travel ball.

Good insight EnkaMom12....I too must confess that I got very caught up in the game and was probably not the best fan. I can at least say that I was only upset with the umps never the fans. For those of you who were not at the game the umpire called the batter out on a tag by the Enka's first baseman. She did not tag the batter with the ball but with her glove. When the ump called the batter out she did not throw to first. The ump then changed his call to safe (or no tag) which would have been the correct call to begin with but the damage was done. Lauren would have made the throw to first and the batter would have been out none the less. Not good to make that call and stop play and then change your call....
I haven't seen anything written here about Sarah Soesbee so I would like to jump in and say that I had not seen her pitch that much due to her being on the jv's but man did she come in and show upper classman composure (she is only a sophomore/rising junior). WOW...Way to come in and close out the game. This is not to take anything away from Amber Banks who pitched a great game but KM was starting to time her and the pitching change was a great move. Nice to have 3 pitchers in the dugout to be able to go to...In conclusion I wanted to say
Get well to Katie Blankenship who was not able to pitch due to a sore elbow. If Coach Miller was staying with his rotation then she was due to pitch but I was told she couldn't go. GET WELL #10....We need you in Raleigh... :applause:

    km players play travel ball

6 of the 9 starters last night play for the Kings Mountain Lightning on weekends. They will begin play on June 12. The shortstop plays for the Rebels and the centerfielder plays for the Carolina Fear. The 2nd baseman, only senior, does not play as far as I know. The KM Lightning has been together and playing travel ball since they were 10 years old. 5 other players in the high school program also play for the Lightning which will be a 15 year old 16 and under team this year. They finished 3rd in the state in the NSA state 14u last year.
The only other player that plays for the Lightning is the Crest High School shortstop. It looks like it has paid off to keep these girls together. I can't believe neither of Enka's two pitchers are not seniors! I hope ya'll win it all. It sure would be nice to say we were put out by the eventual state champs!!

On the umpire's call, I had the perfect angle, you are right she tagged with the glove, not the ball. Was called out, runner slowed to almost a stop. Throw was not made to first. Runner made it to first and umpire switched his call to safe. I am just glad that play did not determine the outcome of the game.
