Tyler Joyner was great. He puts the Patriots out 3 years in a row. He struck out 10 and hit a 3 RBI triple. Good luck to the Knights as they advance.

Patriots finish the season at 20-6. Good bye to 8 seniors who have been a big part of the program. The Patriots will be a young bunch next year.

South Central executed a winning game plan last night. They proved the importance of knowing how to play small ball and make it pay off. Get a baserunner, and put pressure on the defense constantly. SC managed a lead off hitter on base 5 out of 7 innings. Rocky Mount misplayed a long fly ball on the first batter of the game. That batter wound up scoring after reaching 3rd on a throwing error. That was kind of the tone setter for the game for RM. Ethan Cochran pitched a great game for SC, holding RM to just 2 hits. RM had the bases loaded with 1 out early in the game and only scored 1 run. They again had bases loaded with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th and failed to score. Congratulations to South Central as they move on. Congratulations also to Rocky Mount on another fine year finishing at 20-3. My son was a freshman on the 2005 Rocky Mount team. In the 5 seasons that began that year I've watched these boys win 102 baseball games and a state championship. Even after a disappointing outcome last night, that ain't too shabby.

    West Stokes 10
    Roanoke Rapids 1

West Stokes blows open a close game in the late innings. Congrats to Coach Goodson and his team. They are a well coached and classy group of young men.

Jacob Spragins takes the tough loss. He pitched well until he had to leave the game with an injury.

Scott Leonard started for West Stokes and was relieved by Seth Holderfield. Both guys pitched very well.

Brian Allen had a homerun for West Stokes.

Roanoke Rapids finishes the season at 16-8 overall.

    Maiden at Chase

    Maiden 2
    Chase 3

At Chase(15-7), Maiden(13-10) came up a little short in a great played game. Justin Sizemore(3 runs,3 hits,3 K's,3 bb,1 hbp) was the tough luck loser for the Blue Devils.

    Maiden:
    Justin Sizemore 2-2; 2b,1b-1rbi
    Stephan Jordan 1-3; 2b-1rbi

    Chase:
    White 1-3; 2b-3rbi

Hold your heads high Blue Devils; as you had one of the best seasons at Maiden in a long time. Congratulations to the nine seniors on a successful season; and best of luck to you in the future. And always remember.......Play Hard! Play Fast! Play With Class!

    South Granville vs. Harnett Central

South Granville advances to the 3rd round for the 4th straight season with a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Cape Fear Valley champions, Harnett Central. Tyler Hunter pitched 5 strong innings before yielding to Josh Darroch, who got the win in relief, striking out 5 over 2 innings. Darroch's solo HR in the top of the 7th proved to be the difference. Cory Hicks also homered for the Vikings, who improve to 18-7 and face Webb in an all-Granville county 3rd round game Friday.
