Anyone know of a good source for NC statewide baseball stats?

I would love to be able to get my hands on a site for doing research for Inside Carolina...

Stats in HS are keep by everyone and their brother and maybe farmed out to India in some cases. To compare what is an error is very wide. No standard or training to know what is what. Good luck. Hard subject. Info is laced with biased opinions.

NCPreps does a good job of posting what they are provided.

The Charlotte Observer receives that information. However, it is not done frequently because all schools do not send in the information. I'll ask Cliff Mehrtens, the King of Preps for the paper, if he can help us with that. For a regional newspaper that does not embrace HS sports, Cliff is very good about supporting HS baseball.

There are not many good sites for this. Especially if you are looking for accuracy.

I really wish there was a site like this as well, but it is a lot like trying to keep up with American Legion baseball stats/standings.

Nearly impossible. Just too many folks in Western and Eastern NC without internet.

:hyper:......again, the biggest problem is getting HS coaches to send in the stats

    IMO

Some coaches out there keep their own books. Some do not, some train the scorer as to what they want to see, others do not. Putt is correct as is Braves. Thing is your report would be better served and get a better grade as what can be done to improve, streamline, and improve stat reporting. Without that it is a waste of time. Different strokes for different folks. Favorite player. Daddys boy. Girlfriend of the player. Some just able to. To many factors.

    HS Stats

just like any information you get it all relies on the person doing the gathering of that information. The fact is some do a good job of keeping accurate stats , some do not. This is not college baseball or pro ball where you have a trained score keeper keeping stats. We all know that stats are misleading at the HS level as well. The difference in the level of the competition from game to game and the fact the season is so short can skew stats greatly. A kid can hit .500 for the season and .125 against quality competition depending on the schedule. Some kids play on big fields and some play on small fields so hr stats can be misleading as well. One pitcher may have a 2.0 era against tough competition pitching all the tough games for his team. Another can have outstanding stats loading up on weak competition. The list goes on and on as to why they can be misleading.

If you can hire an official "trained" score keeper to keep all your stats then go for it. We have been fortunate to have a math teacher that is a sports stat guru that loves to keep stats. There are other programs that do a great job of keeping stats accurately as well. All you can go on is what you have. Take it for what it is worth. Some coaches are reluctant to post stats because its a way other teams can gather information on their team come playoff time. To each his own I dont have a problem with that.

NCPreps does a good job of posting what they are given. They are not responsible for its accuracy. We are all aware that some stats are "juiced" for various reasons by various people. Its just one of the reason kids are not recruited based on hs stats.

Matt the best way to get the information you are looking for is to go to NCPreps. And if you have particular player you want information on contact his HS coach. There is no guarantee they are going to be accurate but you will have what is out there.

I have always found it kind of comical when the team that wins a conference has a team batting average of .320 and a team era of 2.25 and a team at the bottom of the league has five guys hitting .450 plus and the team era is 1.50. But to quote Plate Dad "it is what it is."

I run the scoreboard and keep stats for our HS team. Myself and the head coach and asst sit down after every game and go over any differences as there is also a book kept in the dugout. It is not that difficult to maintain accurate stats. I hate it when I hear about college coaches not paying attention to HS stats because of the problems that have been mentioned in this thread when I know the lengths we go to maintain accuracy. Even though I mentioned NCPreps some of the stats I see there are really out of bounds, but not their fault. They can only post what is provided.
