I would say no to posting stats.
Yes it can be motivation. Sure, its a fun thing for players and parents.

Stats can be a source of pride for some. But to be honest, alot of high school athlets have egos.

Let's say Little Johnny is batting .300. His team wins there next game, but Little Johnny goes 0-3 with 3 K's. Now, I ain't saying every Little Johnny won't be able to shake it off, but there are plenty of quality ballplayers who will think, "Dangit, this is gonna hurt my stats," rather than, "We won!"

There are plenty of good cases for stats, but I think that they can often take away from a team. Players can become selfish because they are concerned all about their stats.

As far as being used as a scouting report for an opponent, maybe. I think most coaches would rather watch an upcoming opponent's game, rather than stare at some numbers from an unknown source for an hour.

About the only time stats could be used against a team, would be if a team was being carried by maybe just a couple strong players. Seeing only 2 or 3 guys hitting over .300 tells u who to pitch to and who not to. Although, you could probably figure that out too by watching an earlier game.

Edit: I think I may have contradicted myself a little there. Not sure exactly.
Just to clarify, I do not think posting stats is bad because other teams can look at them. I think posting stats is bad because they can create selfish ballplayers.

I think we have a winner...

Stats have their place, no question! Unfortunately, any level of detailed information can be used to undermine a program in the hands of a competent opposing coach. Good points on both sides of the fence.
