Guys and gals, at some point, if U do want to play college ball, U must make a choice! Determine the sport U want to pursue and pursue that one!

This is terrible for this young lady as concussions are not fun. Suffered a couple over the years and lost several days! Heck my wife says I do that now! (lose days)

Good luck young lady and I hope U take care, rest and be cleared before U play any sport.:talker:

    Abbey:

I have known several of the Blues to play multiple sports, including some very talented basketball players. Do you think they should not be playing basketball? You seem pretty adament that they MUST pick one - how do you advise your players?

I hate to see young people give up a sport they are passionate about such as basketball simply because a college scholarship MIGHT await in another sport and an injury MIGHT effect the ability to receive the scholarship.

One of my biggest regrets growing up was letting my baseball coach talk me out of playing basketball my senior year. My team went on to the state finals and I missed that experience. Now that I am 40, I regret that decision tremendously!

Stepping On Toes, But Agreed !!

Now if a doctor told you that you had 3 months to live if you didn't quit smoking what would you do???....LISTEN PEOPLE Rodney has been doing this for a long time, and he would not mislead you in what he is trying to convey to you about multi-sports..In general, college coaches could care less if you play (3) sports, they want what you excel in, it's impossible in most cases to give 100% to 3 sports !~!! Argue all you want, but facts are facts. Talk to some of these kids that go to college and ask them if they have time for the sport they are playing and for studies, is there any other time for another sport..Talk to Ray McCrodden and ask him how much extra time his daughter had after playing softball / studying...he sat me down and told me one day how difficult it was to hold down one sport and study, and keep the grades up...Ask yourself this question is your kid doing it for her or you ??? Egos have destroyed many people !!!

    Here's The Arguement I Hear !!!

My DD could twist her ankle going out the back door...AGREED, but the more times she goes out the back door her chances of twisting go up !! Do you see where I'm going with this subject?? I tell my kids all the time don't get on the road so much, you increase your chances of getting in a wreck, and so it happens, right now I'm replacing 2 doors on my son's car because of the constant driving attitude..." GOTTA GO HERE,AND GOTTA GO THERE ". When you are not resting your body by playing from one season to next season your body will wear out...if you don't believe me ask your orthopedic doctor, he will tell you that the knees are the first thing to go !! My DD wanted to play soccer, but I told her let's concentrate on softball that is what you excel in...I have found out no matter if you have good advice or not people are going to do what they want to do NO MATTER THE COST !!!

Taking a piece of what the guru says.....

We know a couple of kids that play for the Washington Huskies, go up during the season when we can to watch em. Had a chance to tailgate with the parents and learned, quite a bit by listening. Keeping in mind that the parents of a handful of the starters, had kids that either played or won on national championship teams at somewhere between 16-18u. they have walked the walk for sure. and the Huskies aint no slackin team.

What they said was in highschool, the good part of diversity in playing multiple sports, gave the players active time, without thinking about softball for a handful of weeks (what, no softball???). Playing another sport, was their down time. However, if recruited, once you sign that paper, its a job. you are getting paid, to play for the college and you need to do just that. Here is the agenda as they told me.

so in the NW, the weather is pretty uncooperative. However, starting right after the holidays, the are in the gym for a work out, at 6:30 am for a while, go to classes, have an afternoon workout, go study, possibly another workout, then to bed. next morning, start all over. until late Feb they start playing out of state, play until the season begins, working on all their practices and classes in between, till the season ends. they get a couple weeks off, at that time, they take classes that are the most difficult, so that they can study and pass them well, because during training and season time, its more difficult. then they a couple weeks off, then fall ball where the new recruits come in and try to steal their spot. that ends around end of oct. start all over. At least that is how I remembered them saying it.

I dont really see any time there for another sport. once your there. But the players themselves said, they were glad they did other sports during that time, just to relax.

Hope that gives some insight. player perspective from some kids that made it, like Guru said, is a good thing.

    OK

Tried to send a response before Guru's message hit but my computer is locking up. U are correct that Blues players have played multiple sports! I can assure you I have advised every Blues player to choose and have lost a few because I gave that advise. As Guru says, the college coach whatever sport could care less if U are a four sport, two sport, etc., they want U to dedicate your energy to the sport for which they are recruiting and coaching!
I am not the parent of the Blues players so I can not force any of my players to walk away from another sport. There have been a couple Blues players that suffered bad injuries playing basketball and volleyball which could have and did put scholarships in jeopardy! If you do not need the scholarship money to send your girl to school, let her play whatever she wants but many of my kids depend on that softball money to assist them in attending college and to some, it gets them in a school they may not have been able to consider.
Hey it is up to the player, the parent, the coach, or the team what they want to do, I simply gave my opinion that U should choose a sport and work on it year round if U want to be the best you can be and you wanted to pursue a college scholarship. There are a small percentage of super players that can play multiple sports and excel, the others usually play because the school needs them, again OK with me, just not what I reccommend. LOl

    Don't Get Us Wrong !!!

I go to a doctor for medical advice, why wouldn't you listen to a man that has already been down the road of collegiate play ??? He is only trying to give you a warning and a word of ADVICE!! The softball kids are like my daughters I don't want to see any of them injured !!! Advice can be taken or not !!! I'm still learning the process, but I'm not a know it all...though some think I feel that way, but I listen, just stubborn sometimes !!!
