WOW!!! A good point here, you never know when the eyes on you need you mre than you need them. The little things that happen to make you think that things are right in the world.

    I Remember

I remember when signing a used popcorn box seemed pretty silly and pointless. Kids would scramble for anything for us to sign on. I remember thinking I was not a "big name" so why ask me? I know for a fact that I signed for some of the same kids at least a dozen different times during the summer. I didn't realize how much fun and how special it was to be asked until several years later.

I know for a fact that Robin Yount would sit on his Harley in the players lot at County Stadium for over an hour each night talking with fans and signing for kids. He said he couldn't sleep when he got home anyway so it was his way of unwinding. He's a player that understood the importance of his role. An ambassador of the game for sure!

Yeah, Robin was special. Not too many would act like him.

I recall a minor league player that refused to sign an autograph for my son. He said, "Hey kid..I am a nobody. You don't want my autograph" My son said, "That's why I want it. Some day you will be somebody". I guess because my son phrased his answer like that, he signed. A few years later, Ted Lilly made it to the show...and has stayed there.

Great article....I got goose bumps reading it. I sent to my son in Lake County for him to read.
