Question for everybody...if a school didn't have the talent to pull from could they produce a State Title ???.........other words can a coach be so knowledgeable / good that he could teach average kids enough to win a State Title ??? if not then it's not the coach but the stacked ball team that should get the credit...Softball Guru

You can make a big difference with an average pool talent over a 3-4 year period of time if the coach has an outstanding philosophy and is a great teacher. If not, then why do programs turnaround under new coaches with new approaches?

Have to agree that if you don't have the talent it would be a stretch to win a state title. Great coaches make a big difference but if they spend their time teaching the basics to the players at the HS level and not in middle school then by the time they have the basics down pat they are graduated. Feeder programs make all the difference. Good Middle School coach who is grounded in the fundamentals and hopefully a few good travel coaches like Rodney and others around getting them ready early.

If you have a really good pitcher that can produce alot of strikeouts then it takes defensive error percentages way down. A little easier not to be "stacked" if you own the mound but you still have to produce runs so if they can't catch a ball you better hope they can hit it.

Got to agree! If your pitcher can dominate then you don't have to have a lot of talent especially in the outfield. Infield needs to be a little stronger but can put bodies in the outfield.

A really good pitcher Might and I say might get you to the state but with the back to back games it would be hard to win it all. Saw the pitcher 2 years ago that went to Campbell a lefty. If Southern Alamance and Brooke hadn't taken them to 10+ innings not sure we (enka) would have beaten them. I don't remember the name of the HS...

When fastpitch first started a good pitcher and a catcher could dominate as slap bunting, push bunts, delayed steals, and other offensive weapons had not been used. Heck most of us were just trying to get a bat on the ball. This game has really developed and a dominating pitcher can be beaten if the corners are not up to par or the bunt coverage is not in sink. Quickness and speed never slump and can create runs. Back on subject, I think U can win without the best talent if U can get them to execute and to work as a team. Of course they have to be able to play the game and have some skills, just not be the "horses" CC, Butler, Hopewell, Kings Mtn, West Rowan, North Davidson, and many other schools through out NC.

Thats her name. Thanks EastofRaleigh. She sure was fun to watch at state. But, multiple extra inning games and the heat will take its toll even on the dominate pitcher. How is she doing in College????
