Well, it's that time when the barrage of conference tournaments comes around (AKA May Madness) and the Southwestern4A Conference should be one of the most competitive from top to bottom out there. The seeds are:
#1 Myers Park vs. #8 Garinger
#4 South Meck vs. #5 Olympic
    #3 Providence vs. #6 Butler
#2 East Meck vs. #7 Waddell

Since Myers Park has won the conference, they don't have to worry to much about the conference tournament as far as positioning for the state tournament. This is going by chance, but East Meck is currently losing to Waddell going into the bottom of the 4th 4-2. If Waddell can upset East Meck and Providence wins their remaining game then both teams will go into the conference tournament with 10-4 records, and barring any upsets could play for the #2 seed in the state tournament for the SW4A in the semifinals for the conference tournament. This situation hasn't occured to many of the players at East I don't believe, but to lock up the #2 seed for the states (more or less) they need to come back and win against Waddell to bring them to 11-3 record winning the tiebreaker. South Meck is 9-5, but I think they have not had much luck with the Eagles (0-2) or Providence (1-1 or 0-2). Waddell has really done well at the end of the year. The old Lewisville SC coach really has worked hard with those boys :). Woodard and Wilson prove to be a tough pitching combo and they could use a #4 pitcher on Garinger or #5 so their pitching will be ready if they face any trouble and have to go a little deep in the rotation.
South Meck's Bart Johnson has been one of the quietest, but hottest hitters in the whole conference, and has really picked it up as of late. With Arrington, Shelton, Robinson, and Johnson in the middle of the lineup they might not be able to homerun you to death, but they hit the gaps and drive the pitcher crazy on the bases, and they love to bunt on right handed pitchers which they will possibly face in Olympic with Cole David, and definitely against MP's Woodard or Wilson.
East Meck's been an all around solid team all year and not many people on this team stand out (Much like the Myers Park team from 2 years ago). Matt Hill could have broken his slump with a home run against Myers Park last night, and Shaughn Neal has hit well all year. David Teague hit around the .500 clip till a week or two ago, and he has been really putting the hurt on the ball. The defense had a stretch of errorless games in the middle of the year that almost single handedly won them games. Their great defense puts the pressure on the other team to make mistakes. Pitching from Buchanan has been consistently well, and Burnham has turned it up a notch as well on the mound, and hitting with quiet consistency at the plate. Fulginiti leadss the team in ERA and has a good curveball that often bites to the outside corner. This teams offense is pretty even up and down the lineup, but where they get it done is on defense. Many of their wins are ugly, but it ends up making their record look real pretty

Myers Park has a solid hitting lineup with Woodard, Wilson, Smith and Kramer, but the key to their success derives in the continued brilliance of Woodard's pitching and the solid pitching of Rob Wilson. The bullpen is much deeper than people think as well. Logan Smith could be depended on to throw in clutch situations during conference and State playoffs.

Olympic and Butler both resemble each other a lot because they are both very scrappy and have improved a lot since the beginning of the year. Don't let their records fool you because a lot of their games have been close ones. Garrett Pervis plays a solid CenterField and Ryan Sansavero is a scrappy shortstop with good feet for Butler, and for Olympic Anthony Citron and Brandon Staton are two of the best hitters in the conference that hardly get their names mentioned. Haushalter should get the ball against Providence in the first round so that could be a real interesting game to watch. Olympic opens up against South Meck

Waddell has a great ace in Carl Krimminger and he could give East lots of trouble in the first round if they are not focused on the task at hand and looking ahead to a future meeting with Providence or Butler.

Sorry this is so long guys

Would you make an outsider's unbiased run at the Meca 8???? We definitely don't get enough posters in that conference.

Myers Park and Olympic play tonight (Thursday, May 8th) and if Myers Park loses then they will drop to the #2 seed in the conference tournament and whoever goes farther (East or Myers Park) gets the #1 seed for the tourney due to East Meck's win against Waddell last night and Myers park's loss to Butler.

Is that right sock? I had assumed that the reg. season winner gets the no, 1 state seed regardless. If MP loses tonight, East will win the reg. season outright and should have the no. 1 seed no matter what happens in the tournament. If MP wins tonight, MP will win it, I assume, by virtue of their 2 wins over East during the regular season. Similarly, I had assumed that they would then get the no. 1 state seed no matter what happens in the conf.tournament. If someone knows for sure, please clear this up. I'm going to the game.

That's what I thought. Some players said that it goes by record to, but I think the Regular Season champ gets a #1 seed in the tourney. and the others would go by records in the conference tournament and regular season if that comes into play. About the MeCa 8, a team that doesn't get much talk on these boards is Central Cabarrus who is 10-1 in the conference

I agree -- we need to hear more from the Central folks. I hear Justin Rittenhour is having a great senior season and will be conference MVP (barely edging out Chris Leak:D)

Central has good pitching and plays good defense -- that will keep you in every game. I was impressed with their club at the Jack Sink tourney.
