SW4A Conference tourny?

I figure someone just got smart. As SirJamesNC posted in another thread, the next year the joint championship site will be Hopewell, so I guess it's going to be on a rotating basis.

The year after that, Charlotte-Mecklenburg basically goes to 3 conferences. (adopting Central Cabarrus, Weddington and JM Robinson as "Charlotte" schools). Having a joint site for 3 conference championship games on the same day may lead to a LONG baseball night, but it's really a nice idea. It might have to be moved to a saturday then.

 

Loooooooooooooooooooooove the idea to death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would not matter if the SW4A and MECA-8 conference tournament champs were the regular season champs or not...would be some fantastic baseball to watch plus a great opporunity for a school to host the event and bring in a little extra gate and concession money as well!!!

But, if the conference tournament champs were not the regular season champs, how about 2 games on Friday (6:00 & 8:00)!?!?! Again, a great opportunity for a school to pull in some extra moneys for their athletic booster club?!?

But, where would you begin and who could you go to talk about this possibly and get this discussed and possibly ALL set up?!? Also, would the coaches agree as well?!?

Somebody help out here...what to do, what to do?!?

Problem #1: You would have to start first with getting an exception to the # of games allowed rule from the NCHSAA. You are allowed "X" games during the regular season plus one additional "endowment" game.

It would have to be considered an "Endowment" type game with a special dispensation to allow a team to play in two endowment games/year under these special circumstances.

Problem #2: Since the game would be for "bragging rights" and nothing more, I wonder if the coaches would want to play it on the Friday after already playing in 3 games that week. It would be a strain on most teams pitching staffs and state playoffs do start the following week.

Nothing that couldn't be overcome, but it may be one of those situations where you "plant the seed" and see if it blooms in 3-4 years.

 

This year it may not be necessary. In the 2nd round of the state tournament, the #1 team from the SW4A is slated to play the #1 team from the Meca-8 anyway (if both of them make it to the 2nd round ... anything can happen in a baseball game).

Right now that would mean South Meck versus ????. If Independence vs North Meck doesn't "happen" in the Meca-8 tournament, they will have to face each other in an "extra" game in order to determine the regular season champion since they have identical 13-1 records.

 

Boy...that's a scary thought...but I like the idea. It would take the coaches blessings and then the Godmother (Vickie Hamilton)

 

That's okay Braves....just got excited and then...got my balloon busted ...Coaches' approval and on top of that Vicki Hamilton's approval?!?!?...but, like NCCBALLFAN said, it could possibly happen anyway in the 2nd round of the states pending everything goes according to plan but...when has anything gone according to plan when it comes to baseball! :scared2:
