Attended the second game. Providence can flat out hit the ball. I believe the fellows name is Shaffer, (could be wrong) the sophmore, hit a home run to left center (a shot). From what I was told, he hit one earlier in the day as well. Don't know how cold it was at the first game, but with snow actually falling for a while, the Panthers just kept it going with the bats. There pitching wasn't the best, (control issues & cold) but then again, it is only February. You know what you will get with Mailman, so that's not an issue. Their sophmore class has some studs for arms (lefty's), we'll have to see just how many, if any, play with the varsity. The competition wasn't the best, but you still have to beat the teams you should beat. Overall, the Panthers looked good!

By the way, Providence has done a great job with the upgrades to the field and viewing area. Now, if they would only address the view from behind the screen towards first base!

I saw a little bit of the AL Brown vs Richmond County game and stayed for awhile for the Providence vs Richmond County game. The feedback I got from a source that attended SM vs Davie County was Davie County looked very strong and South Meck looked pretty sloppy.(I'm just reporting what I was told).

I concur with PD and dbacks in that Providence looks extremely good and pretty sharp, especially this early in the season. I really like the way that Semunik (never could spell that name right) plays. Strong arm and big kid. They are going to be very tough to beat this year.

Agree PhillyDave...the field looks great with the upgrades. You're right, the kid hitting in front of Mailman was Shaffer(sp)...man he looked good at the plate.

Get ready SW4A...it's going to be a fun season.:corn:

Eric Semeniuk (here you go Braves) is a junior that will demand respect with his arm and bat. He is the brother of Ryan (2006 Graduate), who is playing ball at Wake Forest. Be aware, there is another Semeniuk, Kurt (freshman) who pitches and has a great bat as well.

    SW4A

Another player that will be Providence's top pitcher, like they need another one, is Kisor or Kiser, not sure exact spelling. He was hit in the face a few years ago, but now is on his game. He will be the top pitcher in SW4A if he stays healthy.

On a side note, you know how much i like my Sabres, but sounds like they need help at all positions, pitching being the key one. Good Luck to all of your teams this year. I promise to be a gentler, kinder person.

As Braves would say "They'll be lucky to stay in the games much less win one"......

How was that one Braves...did I say it the way you taught me:newsmile9:

I don't know what you guys are talking about. [big smilie thingy]

All I am saying is they no longer have Waddell or Garinger in their conference; all of the teams are very strong. So, they really will need Lalas, Shuey, Jones and company to step up and be leaders. There will be some tough times ahead, but their leadership can overcome those rough times. It's a new era and things are definitely different in SaberNation, but there is still quality talent over there...and it will take a whole season for the new coach to figure out that HS baseball in the SW4A is serious business; one players train for all year. It's not something that will allow you to be a seasonal coach. Not if you want to compete at the highest level
