Nice , well played scrimmage today. Jack Hughes park is a nice place(traffic stinks). Lots and lots of new faces on both teams. Mp came out on top 6 - 4

Just returned from the Weddington/Providence game. Very well played. PHS won 6-2 but understand it was a scrimmage. Shellhorn and Buttrey started and pitched two innings. Both looked good after they settled down. There had to be 20+ scouts there with Radar guns. Campana, Herbert, Jimmy Dullittle, Bostoc (sp) the Clemson kid and Peyton Honeycutt and Dougdale, looked good, but Peyton gave up a couple of hits and that was the difference late in the game. Nice weather, nice field, great kids/coaches and parents.

Understanding that it was a scrimmage so don't kill me, but technically Weddington won. Score at the end of 7 complete innings was 2-1 Weddington. They then continued, because it was a scrimmage, to play 11 innings after which the score ended 6-2. Both teams made tons of substitutions in the 4 extra innings at all positions.

For a scrimmage it was a great atmosphere and a well played game. 14 of the MLB clubs were there primarily to see Buttrey throw, but I do know that a couple of others garnered some attention as a result.

Providence took the lead 1-0 in the first. In the bottom half of the first Weddington put 2 on the board. It stayed 2-1 until the 9th. Well pitched and well played defensive game all around.

Ty Buttrey (Arkansas commit) struck out 6 in his couple innings of work and was sitting right at 93-94 mph. Hit 95. Sharp breaking ball that had several swinging at balls in the dirt.

Jackson Campana (Clemson commit) was very effective. I didn't get a gun on him, but my guess is that he was sitting 87-89

Jeremy Schellhorn (UNCC commit) pitched well for 3 innings only giving up the one run. Schelly was sitting right at 84-85

Alex Bostic (Clemson commit) shut Providence down for 3 innings while sitting at 86-87 from the left side.

Pretty fun to watch these 4 throw. It was most certainly great weather, great atmosphere, great crowd and fun to watch. Both of these teams should have a shot to run very deep into the playoffs in their respective conferences/state playoffs. Good luck to both.....everyone stay healthy!

Weddington is at AK next on Tuesday. Buttrey/Campana/Trent Thorton to start the season. Hey, face the best to get ready.

Excellent post, thanks for the details. Both teams should rock this year, no doubt.

    hmmm

Maybe the first four innings were a warm up and phs won the last seven innings 5-0?
