I believe all on this thread are aware of the arm issues - so thought it may be good to start pushing the issue by having college and high school coaches talk to the younger age groups. Do not know if it is still true - some years ago a scout told me their organization looked for pitchers that started later in their youth (prefer those just starting in high school) versus pitchers that had been pitching since they were 8/9. Of course you have to be careful with what you are told.

Below is info forwarded. fyi -APC does a lot athletic training for various sports and is also the re-hab facililty for Raleigh Orthopaedic. Greg's son played baseball at Leesville and is a supporter of local Raleigh youth and high school athletics

    Request for help:
Last week, I attended the 27th annual ASMI Injuries in Baseball meeting. Each year I have attended this, the injury statistics seem to grow larger and be affecting a much younger age group. The research shows that the number one factor in the shoulder and elbow injuries we are seeing is "Year round baseball participation" and the cumulative effects of the volume of throwing stresses.

The medical leadership of this meeting has given us a charge as sports medicine professionals, to do our part in educating the coaches, athletes and parents of those involved in competitive levels of baseball. To respond to this challenge, I would like to offer to volunteer my time to reach out to the teams we are working with, and the organizations that any of you have affiliations with.

All I need from you is to help me reach the coaches and parents to coordinate a time to meet and share the information. If you are a coach or parent and can help me set this up, or have any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you in advance! GS
