I don't think the NCAA can legislate whether kids work out on their own or not. But my guess is that between classes and team workouts there isn't much time or energy left for that. The coaches will certainly work with a kid who has a lab or something interfering with practice, but the student is expected to work his primary schedule around PM practice time. The previous poster is right, nobody coming out of HS can be prepared for college baseball.

If a player has a class that interferes with practice the class takes precedent. Many players are wearing half their uniforms to class and running to practice to cut the time off. Coaches understand but hate it.

It's not the kids fault, it's the ivory tower professors and admins making 60k plus a year who want to have their mornings to themselves and refuse to teach classes before 1PM. This is real not made up.

During the season each student/athlete is responsible for giving a schedule to each professor and show the professor where he will be missing class. The player is also expected to be proactive and make sure if he will be missing assignments or exams, he has them turned in at the professors requested time. In general, professors hate baseball because it misses the most class. Of course, that is a generalization. we have several professors who are big fans.
