Travis is a rising senior at Wesleyan Academy and one of the cornerstones of the strong pitching staff that Impact Baseball took to Jupiter for the WWBA championships. His parents are Steve (Golf Pro ... I gotta get to know him better!!) and Ellen (USAirways). His sister is currently a sophomore at Harvard.

Travis kindly consented to an interview for ThisBoardRocks.

1.Travis, congratulations on your signing with NC State. Tell us about it?

It is a great honor for me to sign with NC State. My goal was always to play somewhere in the ACC and I am very excited to get started. It is also a great school and the coaching staff is great.

    2. Wesleyan had a great year this past season and may be the dominant team
in your classification this year. How do you feel you guys will do this
    year?

After finishing 2nd in the state for the last 4 years, my teammates and I are eager to work hard to claim the championship this year. We have a great senior class but also many of our underclassmen have greatly improved. To be honest, we all believe this is our year to win and we won't be satisfied until our goal is accomplished.

    3. You have been rated as one of the top pitchers in the State by many
sources. How do you handle all the accolades?

Although all the accolades are nice, I know that I have to get better and I have a ton of work to do because college will be a lot more challenging.

    4. Who influenced you the most in your baseball career?

The person who influenced me the most would have to be Dean Sink, the coach of the summer team that I played on for years. (Jamestown Jaguars) He taught me what it means to work, along with a lot of discipline.

    5. Knowing that there are many young kids in your area that would like to
emulate you, what advice do you have for them?

I would have to say that you are not going to get better without working hard. You have to love the game and play it the right way.

    6. The best player you have played with?

Daniel Bard would have to be the best player I have played against. He pitched against Wesleyan in the state championship game and he is a very dominating pitcher.

    7. Your favorite food?

    Philly Cheese steak

    8. Your favorite movie?

    Dumb and Dumber

    9. What do you like to do on your days off?

I like hanging out with my friends and playing basketball.

    10. What is the one thing that you are most proud of?

Probably all the tournaments that I won with the Jamestown Jaguars. We had great team unity and played as a team.

Thanks Travis for taking the time to share some information with us. Everyone, if you get a chance to see this fine young pitcher, take it. He's ranked in the top-15 players in the state for the '04 graduates.

Congrats Travis on everything you have achieved! We've had the pleasure to know you and your family for few years. You are a very good baseball player and a very smart student. It all comes from hard work and you are not afraid of that. NC State will be lucky to get a kid of your caliber! I know your parents are proud!

Congradulations Travis, I had the pleasure of seeing Travis play a couple of times this summer as my son played with him in a couple of showcases. I expect I will get to know him better as my son has also signed to play with N.C. State.

I got to watch Travis play for the Impact Baseball team this fall. This kid is legit!!! He could play any position on the field and was a quality pitcher as well.

The one thing that stood out in my mind was how competitive he is.....I love that about Travis. What a great pick up for Coach Avent as the Wolfpack continues to shine with their players.

...and bball23...thank you for your insight. Now, I know who your son is and we sure would love to interview him :D

I really love these interviews. It's fun to learn a little about all these kids I've been reading about. Keep'em coming.

Congrats to Travis. Good luck this year and may you have many more successful seasons.
