    Recruiting Video

    My daughter is a pitcher.
1.Can you provide details of what coaches want to see when we create video/DVD's to send to prospective colleges.
2.How much information? How much is to much?
3.Is it better to record from behind the pitcher or home plate.
4.How much in advance of graduation do you prefer receiving this type information?
5.When is it to late to receive serious consideration?

    Thx

Every coach will have their own opinion on this, simple and informative videos are the choice of many. 40 minutes of game film can be very tedious and sometimes tough to remember who you are watching.

    1. Skill specific footage, whether it be hitting in a cage, in the circle, or at a defensive position. As a pitcher, 3-4 examples of every pitch. Make sure the movement is highlited. If you have a gun, show a reading of velocity.
    2. 2-3 minutes is plenty in each stage of production. Make sure the video highlites mechanics.
    3. Get every angle possible for a pitcher. from the sides, behind and from the batter's prospective.
    4. Div I early signing is in November before graduation. This should be out by spring of their junior year for Div I.
If your being recruited by a Div I team, you know it by your junior year.
    5. This depends on your aspirations and where you can compete. I am working on my 2008 and 2009 classes now.
Next 4 weeks are critical for the 2008 class. They need to be playing in Florence this week, Raleigh next, etc...

The Div I softball recruiting calendar is as follows for the rest of the year.
    Today through Sept 3rd 2007 contact/evaluation period
Sept 4 through Nov 22, 2007 contact period
    except for (1) and (2):
    (1) 10/12/07 through 11/04/07 contact/evaluation period
    (2) 11/12/07 through 11/15/07 dead period
    Nov 23, 2007 through Jan 1, 2008 quiet period
    except
    (1) 11/28/07 through 12/01/07 dead period

As info...evaluation period is the only time a Div I coach can actually go watch a prospect play..

A 2008 grad has the rest of the summer ( up to 9/4/07) and 3 weeks
in the Fall ( 10/12/07 through 11/04/07) left to play in front of Div I coaches...

These rules do not effect DII and DIII coaching staffs...

    Great Information

This is wonerful. Maybe I have just been asking the wrong people, but there seems to be so much misunderstanding and secrets around this subject. I enjoyed reading every word of this interview and will be pointing my friends to TBR.:55:

Another great interview with lots of information.

Cheeze, Who do you have next on the list? Maybe the fishman? LOL

We have heard from a couple DII coaches, do we have any D1 coaches on the board that could give us some of their insights on recruiting, what they are looking for, and restrictions they face?
