    Juniors Yes - Seniors No

I don't coach HS Baseball. I know several who do (or have). My two cents worth is that I'd keep a Junior on the JV IF (and only IF) I thought he might help the Varsity as a Senior. I see no reason to keep a Senior on JV though......taking up a spot for a younger player to develop not gonna happen.

the 3 day tryout is a matter of generosity... most coaches could make a 10 player cut in the first hour of practice...

    yes

yeah I was thinking when I read about 3 days of tryouts........... seems like 2 days would be a gracious plenty.

another question, no matter if it's 2 or 3 days or whatever............. do you require kids to attend all the tryout sessions if they are to be considered?

I thought there was a rule of some kind that they could only play two years of JV. If thats true and they played as a freshman and sophomore then junior year it's varsity or nothing. Is this correct?

no juniors or seniors on jv. the only way i might do that is if there was a junior who had not played on the school team before and may have a chance to develop.

    not aware of a rule

don't know about a "rule", but I would say that most jr's/ sr's would not want to be on JV ..........embarassment/ shame factor??

We had 2 juniors on JV last year. I think the rule is as long as they have never been on Varsity they can play a third year on JV. It was a case of having alot of seniors and a ton of juniors - and only 9 underclassmen trying out for JV. It actually worked out great for all parties. We were able to field a JV team and some kids got to play that may have been cut if they were only considered for the Varsity team. I don't think they were embarrassed or ashamed - in fact I think everybody thought it was pretty cool to have upperclassmen on the team.

Contrary to what some coaches believe, parents can be valuable assets. Most times, parents will do whatever is asked of them by the coaches - ultimately helping the team. Unless, of course, the coaches already know it all. ;)
