Breakdown of World Wood Bat All Tournament Team by State:

    Florida, 15
    Texas, 9
    Georgia, 7
    North Carolina, 7
    California, 5
    South Carolina, 5
    Tennessee, 4
    Iowa, 3
    Maryland, 2
    Missouri, 2
    Ohio, 2
    Ontario Canada, 2
    Pennsylvania, 2

No other state had more than 1 representative. Since the Tournament is held in Florida, there will be more Florida teams (and thus players) than any other state, so the increased representation is more a factor of numbers than anything else. The California players don't "come east" in large numbers for the tournament. Texas and Georgia (as aways) are very strong, but the numbers from North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee are very indicative of the improvements in the overall baseball development in those states of the past few years.

I expect to see NC (as well as SC) represented well in the future also. Yes .... NC CAN compete nationally. It remains to be seen if "Global Baseball" is the venue to accomplish it though.

To add to some of the teams from NC that have been successful recently in national events:

2001 18&U USSSA Major World Series - won by the NC Hurricanes made up of a lot of players from the Charlotte area.

2002 13&U AAU National Championship - won by the Greensboro Batting Center.

2003 15&U AAU National Championship - won by the Greensboro Batting Center.

I'm sure there have been others.

It will be interesting to follow the formation of "Team NC" in the spring and see how it all plays out. If the team is put together with the right players(top talent in strictly the 16 age group from all over the state), coached by the right coaches(ones that are held in high regards as baseball coaches), and for the right reasons (entering a competitive team that has a very good chance of being in the finals as opposed to an entry team selected through a process for the purpose of making money and then selecting team from those that pay to attend tryouts), then this will be another great chance for NC to show well right up there with Fl, Ga, TX. From the info in a post above, this venture appears to be in the hands of one guy in Concord so I guess it all rests with him.

No info yet on Global Baseball???? Anyone know anything about them????
