A couple of my friends here asked me to link my column on kids making right and wrong decisions. many of us have children in high school now, we as parents, coaches and friends must help to guide them through all the pitfalls they can run into

Here is my column from The South Charlotte Sports Report

WOW!!!! you picked the perfect time for this column. excellent.

add to that the daughter of a principal in our conference who was killed in a one car accident 3 weeks ago. or the former student of mine who was lucky enough to only spend 2 days in ICU after falling and busting his head at a party a couple nights ago.

these things happen way too often and it breaks your heart each and every time.

i've had a few discussions with players, 1 in particular who is like a child to me, recently about decision-making and how teenagers dont look past the here and now. or they dont see past the fun or laughter that may come from doing something careless. they don't see the "worst case" scenario that we, as adults, have to think about.

it's so hard to get kids to understand the importance of thinking things through thoroughly. and from a parents' perspective it must be harder because you want to protect your kids from anything harmful, but you can't hold their hands through everything. you have to trust your kids to make good decisions while knowing that there is a good chance that they won't.

it's just a scary, scary thing.

thanks for the article and i can promise you that a copy of this will be in the hands of each and every one of my players tomorrow at practice. if it makes one kid think twice then it will be a success.

Not sure if I could make it if my son perished under such tragic circumstances. Great article, makes baseball seem really...
