Coaches need to address these isssues before the kid is in classes he can't pass. Sit your players down (those who have problems in the classroom) and look at what classes they can take that will be passable (and help them get into colleges) and do it in the spring. Don't send them to classes they struggle in and then change thier classes a month into school when you need them to hit on the field and they need to be hitting the books. A student like kincaid missing out on bigtime college athletics because of classroom woes is unacceptable and unfair to him and moving classes while he re-writes rushing records looks fishy. But hell at least he's not studying ballroom dancing yet....

Fellas, I'm really disturbed by what I read in today's paper. What right does this guy from Durham have in bashing the entire McDowell Titan coaching staff and the rest of the players on the team if he has never been around the program? He has NO RIGHT to do that. He knows nothing about the McDowell program and would be better to keep his comments to himself. I mean the man comes to one McDowell game (only because somebody told him about Buggy) and all of a sudden he can form a rational observation of the entire program? Our coaches have no chance in keeping folks happy, like dookman said if Buggy ran it only 15 tiems a game people would then wanna know why we isn't carrying it more?

And for this individual to actually quote a parent is nothing more than to start a fuss. How does that parent know that Terrance isn't going anywhere after high school? If you ask me, I think the person who wrote to the local paper is involved in football to some extent, not here locally but maybe in the Durham area and is the type that felt like he had to chime in and give his two cents worth. Just to read his comments like "boy, how I would like to have him on my team." seems too much like someone who is involved in the game. I can tell you for sure that today's letter did not go over well with the Titan coaching staff today and I don't blame them.

I think for anybody to question the extent of assistance Buggy is receiving is just plain out stupid. As dookman32 said earlier JUCO is an option that Buggy could explore and from my sources that route will likely be offered to him. I don't think you can ask much more of the folks at MHS than to give Buggy the chance, in the end the ultimate decision has to be made by Terrance himself.

And for those on here who just even sniff the idea of Buggy getting special treatment better look in the damn mirror.

I relish the freedoms that we have in America. We can express ourselves without fear of retribution. With that said, it makes me sad to see people discussing the accademic shortcomings of a young man when without exception they have no first hand knowledge of what they are talking about. If the kid is not an Rhodes Scholar, so what? He is one fantastic talent, so why can't we just leave it at that. Leave the kid alone, just admire his exploits on Friday nights. It's also insane for anyone to contend that the people at McDowell High would not do everything in their power to help the kid. It's no discrace to go to a junior college and then on to a 4 year college. Steve Smith of the Panthers did that and he's turned out pretty well both as a player and a person.

I mean no disrespect to Buggy, or any player or any coach. What I said is a blanket statement, all students should get the best that can be given. Star atheletes are a unique case in that they have eyes watching them every step, they also have the advantage of coaches who can help them. I'm not trying to criticise anyone. Whether Buggy is an A student or a D student is none of my business and I don't try to make it mine. BUT the idea of a player of his level not getting to play on the level we know he is capable of is disapointing. I hope he does, he deserves it. As for the guy from durham: Use it as motivation Titans!

Make no mistake about it, Kincaid will play at the next level. He is too good an athlete and too good of a kid for him to slip through the cracks.

As for the coaches-no high school coach gets paid well enough to be in it for anything but the love of the game. The coaches aren't going to cheat a kid out of a free ride and a college education just so they can win a game or two-this isn't Varsity Blues.

For those that haven't seen the letter...Here it is (Apologies to Marty, Dan, & McDowell News staff for the copy).

"From Durham: I believe I know why "Buggy" runs"

    Letter To The Editor
    The McDowell News

I am a person who is big into athletics and a friend of mine told me about a gentleman in your area named Terrance Kincaid. I was also told he was a great tailback, and I should come and see him, so I did.

I traveled to his most recent gam. It was great to see such athleticism by one guy. He is a kid that I would love to coach. So I watched the first half as I sat in the stands and my attitude change from jubilation to hesitation.

I saw the same play ran over and over again. There were no plays to get him to expose the defense so that other players could give him a break. It was first and 15 when I heard a woman say, "It's OK, Buggy will get it for us."

Play after play it went from magic to tragic. I watched him being helped up by Titans and South Caldwell players. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, he had no energy. He was attempting th throw up and deliver all he could. I understand that he doesn't play in the fourth quarter. It was evident by how exhausted he was.

I asked the the next obvious question regarding his future. One player's father replied, "He's not going anywhere."

So I believe why "Buggy" runs. He runs because he wants to erase the torture of his past, his present, and his future. The past he has done all he can yet it is in vain. His present because of what he deals with. Lastly, his future, because he would like toput on the shoes of success both on and off the field.

So if the coaching staff shakes his hand on the field, will they shake his hand after graduating knowing there was a future for him in the beginning?

It's not about race. Just as many diverse groups were in the audience saying the same thing. Stop calling the same play and give this kid a break. Or, give him the ball and let him break the record.

The bad thing about it is that what will people say after he breaks the record? The athletic department let his soul down.
