CureSearch Night 6/15 The Ballantyne Smokies and CureSearch Team Up to Battle Childhood Cancer The Ballantyne Smokies and CureSearch have created an opportunity to enjoy collegiate baseball talent while supporting a cause with strong ties to the Charlotte area. CureSearch, a group focused on raising funds for children's cancer research has made its stamp on the Charlotte community through the Ultimate Hike and community walks in Freedom Park. The Ballantyne Smokies are a community focused collegiate baseball team with players from the likes of Chapel Hill, UNCC, NC State, Wingate, Lander and more, and are playing at Ardrey Kell High School. The team has had an outstanding amount of support from the community and are excited to put on this event to help raise awareness. The money raised will benefit a CureSearch for Children's Cancer, in honor of Kevin & Emily Ratliff who's daughter, Claire, passed away from cancer in January. Kevin Ratliff played locally at Mint Hill Athletic Association, Independence High School and collegiately at St. Andrews College. Both head coach John Spencer and assistant coach JD Vidal had ties to Ratliff while playing through high school and college. "There are no better people in this area than the Ratliff family" says Vidal. "We want to show Kevin and his family that we love him and we care." Friday, June 15th at 7:30 will be the day and time of celebration. The Mellow Mushroom of Ballantyne has donated 200 t-shirts for the cause. There will be a booth set up where fans can tye-dye their t-shirts pink for $5.00. All proceeds will be donated to CureSearch. The Ballantyne Smokies will also be donating 50% of the gate for the CureSearch cause. 12 & Under is admitted free while 13 & Up is $5.00. There will be plenty of in-game promotions (frozen t-shirt contest, dance for a dinner, tweet the heat) and great food to have a family night out at the park. Come out and enjoy some "Good Ole' Fashion Baseball" while supporting a great cause.
