    Derek Jeter

Infieldfly: I think perhaps you have mistaken someone else to be Derek Jeter. I have seen several interviews involving Jeter and know people who know him personally. From my personal observations, Jeter has always presented himself as both intelligent AND articulate. Those who know him personally have always commented on how "cerebral" Jeter is. I do not think Derek went to college (did not need/have to/want to) but his lack of a college degree should not be held against him. There are a LOT of current successful managers in MLB who do "not respond coherently to any question."

As far a "managerial potential", we will not know until we know.

In the history of baseball, I wonder how many managers have received a college degree.

I've always thought that Derek Jeter was articulate and very measured with his speech. When it's come to speaking with the press, I've found him reserved and careful in what he says. I suspect because he's seen teammates burned by the NY press.

I'll give her credit for doing it. She clearly wasn't the best dancer, but she certainly improved over the run of the show. The show has an element of being a popularity contest, and thats why you see alot of good dancers get ousted before they should. You can pick out the top 3 dancers on the very first show but rarely do they all make it to the end. Bristol rode her mothers coattails with the fan voting.

Pant legs up or down? Pant legs tucked into your cleats or no?

Up and please, someone stop the trend of tucking your pants into your cleats.

I thought it was interesting that she came onto the show with no history of performing anything. No sports, no showbiz, nada. Yes, she rode her mother's coattails in having the Tea Partiers vote for her, but it impressed me that she wasn't content to just sit back and ride that wave. It was obvious that she was very determined to work hard to try to be the best that she could be. While it wasn't better than everyone else, the change she made from the beginning to the end was pretty amazing, and I think she showed more improvement than everyone else.

A great work ethic, drive and determination to be the best you can be and rise to the top. Alot of parallels to sports.

    November 26: Brett Favre

Why do so many great athletes find it so hard to retire at the right time, has Brett overextended his welcome?

Brett Favre is the poster-child for indecision. He's retired how many times now? I would guess that the #1 reason we keep hearing about Favre coming back is the amount of money teams keep throwing at him. Favre is scheduled to make about 24 million this year if he just finishes out the season. He could have made another 4 million if the Vikes had made the playoffs, which isn't likely to happen. That's some serious green stuff! Hard to turn that down. Add to that the fact that the Vikes were in the NFC Title game last year and just barely lost to the Saints. Their thinking was probadly that they had the pieces to make another run at the Super Bowl if Favre would come back one more year. Things just didn't work out for Favre or the Vikes.
