Real head scratcher here, feel bad for a lot of the jv kids that work so hard, they are bound to lose games in a lot of sports, I am not even sure that all of these schools field teams in each sport for the conference SM, AK, Cath and Prov will be in.

NCHSAA had a really great first alignment and CMS vetoed it and suggested otherwise....

    Really?

Based on your reaction, I think you'd rather see SM, AK, Cath and Prov merge with ProvDay, CDay, Latin, and C. Chrstian to form the "mega-Preppy 4a" conference.

Ak and Prov dominate baseball. Olympic and Harding dominate basketball. Catholic football(maybe?) Why? Probably coaching.

Excuse me if I don't shed a tear for lacrosse, field hockey, or other sports, or the JV in ancillary sports.

Ever been to a AK baseball game? Nice people. Nice booster club and Nice buildings. Not a melting pot, though. More "yoose guys" than "hey ya'lls" over there. Valet parking offered in 2013. But seriously. It's not the end of civilization as we know it. Might have to socialize with the socialists a little.

On the other hand, the place to see good baseball day in and day out might be union county. Wedd'ton, MR, Cuthbertson,Piedmont,SV. ....that's stee-RONG.

    Berry and Harding

The few times I saw these teams play I spent the entire time worrying about someone getting hurt. I can't say it any simpler..... These boys play at about the same level as the South Charlotte boys do at about 11u. This isn't an attempt at humor. One of these boys is going to get hurt. They have no idea how to defend themselves. Heck most dont even have the basic catching and throwing mechanics down pat. I hate watching them play against good teams. It makes me nervous. There is nothing funny about it and these games are a complete waste of time. If Danny and Hal were allowed to speak their minds without the CMS fallout I'm sure they'd say the same thing.

I can't wait for the response that tries explaining why I'm wrong. That one will be an instant classic.

What they (CMS) don't realize is that kids won't go out and play if they know they are going to be embarrassed by superior teams. The less fortunate will become worse rather than building on success playing teams at their level. This looks like "forced busing" in sports. Geez. :toilet-paper:

No more Late night posts after NCState blows lead to Duke

Probably a good thing that baseball players don't play catch with the OTHER team. Can u say....."othrodontist"?

    Jumpstart....Hold on a minute....

Other lesser teams would not avoid lesser teams. Won't happen. They'll just show up, get beat, and rationalize why they lost.

You can play, fail, and adjust. Or you can play, fail, and rationalize. Your choice.

It all goes back to quality coaching.

How long would it take the coaching staff at AK or Prov to turn around P.O'Berry and Harding in baseball? IMHO, it wouldn't take too long.

Discipline, structure, a system, well prepared. Athletes are at ALL schools..... coaching isn't.

Which makes me wonder just how coaches are hired at HS level for CMS or other systems for those not-so-good teams? who hires them? are they held accountable? if so, by who?

Seems like a good opportunity for an up-and-coming coach.

    No Way

Although I'm very fond of these coaches there is just no way they'd be able to "turn the programs" around.

Boys begin learning baseball in South Charlotte at about age 7 or 8. Their dads love the game (and a few actually know what they're doing). They play and practice all the time. The parents pay good money to have them particiapte in summer leagues and for lessons. They are committed to it.

The boys from Berry and Harding have no idea how to play the game. Great athletes do not necessarily make good baseball players. If these (top shelf high school) coaches waited until the Berry/Harding boys got to high school it would be way to late. The best thing they could do is keep them well organized so that it's as worthwhile as possible.

AND head down to the rec league in that area and start teaching the 8 year olds so that when they are juniors and seniors at Berry/Harding they have the basics down and have formed a love for the game. In 8 or 9 years there'd be a chance they would compete.

    Odds of this happening? Zippo.
