Has anyone stopped to think who actually started the discussion during the world series, Michelle Smith. Michelle Smith has a contract for a bat with Rip-It, who no longer makes a composite bat. Of course she wants to make it a controversy, since her bat is aluminum!!! All major manufacturers don't even make aluminum anymore in their quality line-up, and if ASA or others want to attempt the ban of composites, I can't wait to see the lawsuits that follow!!

As for baseball, composite was never the leading seller, aluminim always has been and the temporary ban of composites did nothing to change the game. Check out the scores for the regions, how many teams last week scored over 20 runs themselves!! Composite has been approved by NCAA for 2011, but it will still be aluminum used by all the baseball programs. Baseball and softball bats are completely different animals, composite desireable for softball and aluminum for baseball.

Because of the weight differential involved between baseball and softball, the baseball bat is built differently and companies can still build better aluminum than composite. Demaraini Voodoo has always been their best seller for years, and Easton has had similar success with aluminum. Demarini quit making their Voodoo softball aluminum over year ago, but continues to build it in baseball and is their #1 seller far and away. The new Easton Surge aluminum bat is a beast, and their best seller also. Don't want to get into actual construction issues, but the proof is in the numbers.

Well, if they allow composite bats back in baseball and they aren't any better controlled than they are in fastpitch I believe you will see many more being used in baseball.

Aluminum simply cannot do as much as composite--baseball or softball.

You hardly see any aluminum in softball now. If you do, you bring the outfield in.

Why did they ban composite in baseball and what are the guidelines for bringing them back?

The NCAA temporarily banned composite for baseball because after testing those used in CWS they found all had been rolled or shaved and way over the approved specs even though most teams were actually swinging aluminum. Because of the weight differential in adult baseball the outer shell in these bats is much thicker and as a result the only way to truly make them hot is to roll or shave them. Softball bats are thinner on outer shell, and as a result break in on their own much faster and have a shorter life span. Enuf said cuz this discussion will become senseless at some point.

The new testing for NCAA baseball is such that nobody will hit composite even though they are no longer banned. The real problem is not composite, these guys are horses, but the NCAA made a statement against cheating and now found it did nothing to reduce run scoring. To a certain degree, they got egg on their face and now allowing it back in under different specs, but believe me go watch a game with aluminum and you will be astonished at how far they can hit it!!!

    no matter

I agree.... bat companies will make aluminum with a lot of pop. All $$$$ and sales and R/D . I don't think its going to matter with more guys and girls lifting weights and off season training. The ball is going to go no matter if its composite or aluminum....

Anyone can say what they want but the difference in the bat materials make a lot of difference in the pop off the bat.

Strength conditioning didn't just get popular recently. The skill level to be able to hit the ball is getting better than in years past for softball.

I believe we'll see composites in baseball become very popular soon. If they can kill it with aluminum, they'll bury it with composite!
