What size will all the schools be,student wise, when everything is said and done? Approximately?

I haven't heard anything recent in reguards to size. But a couple years ago when the School Board was planning for these new additions, they decided with the idea to build two new schools that would hold approximately 800 kids instead of one huge school that would hold well over a thousand.

So if there have been no changes in the plan, I would say each school will hold about 800, which would likely classify them as a 2A schools.

My understanding is the new schools will either be big 2A or small 3A schools and that East Burke would drop down to 3A size. Freedom is so big that it would reamain a 4A. The new schools would drop it down to a 4A school around the size of Alexander Central/South Caldwell.

Still surprised with the names. I thought for sure one would be named after Senator Sam Ervin.

How many are at Freedom if it is dropping DOWN to the size of ACHS?....when my daughter graduated last year there were over 1600 there.

Freedom's enrollment is more like that of the big Charlotte 4A schools; I think they have over 2,000 kids. Most of the other NW4A schools are in the 1,500 neighborhood.

So having names is great, but have they even broken ground? What's the status of the actual construction?

Also, early nickname suggestion: Draughn Dreadnaughts

I took a look at the ADM's that the NCHSAA uses to classify the football playoffs and I was a bit suprised at how big some of the schools have become. Freedom has over 2300 while according to the NCHSAA East Burke has over 1900 and McDowell over 1800.

The other schools are in that 1400-1600 range. Infact Reynolds has passed over Watauga.

Wow.....I had no idea they were all this big.....jeez.....well it makes sense with the growth in the western area....surprised there haven't been more new high schools built....cause none of us want anything like the mess they have at CMS....of course these are all in different systems, but still it is not good to have 1800-2100 kids in a school together, IMHO.
