I've seen two perfect games in person. I was keeping the scorebook for the LOSING team on both occasions!

    American Legion Game Last Year,

    Caldwell County @ East Catawba
playing game 1 of a doubleheader (7 innings) I was umpiring behind the plate when the pitcher for Caldwell County was working on a perfect game with one out in the top of the seventh inning when the p.a. announcer for East Catawba decided to make this announcement: "East Catawba would like to announce that soandso from Caldwell County is working on a perfect game." Next pitch was a clean single to ruin the perfect game and no-hitter. May have been one of the best examples of someone that doesn't know baseball ruining it for the rest of us!

Playing in a tournament in Augusta this summer. Our centerfielder makes a diving catch on a fly ball, hits the ground, rolls over and then we see the ball on the ground. Base umpire signals for a catch and an out. The opposing coach disagreed and wanted to discuss this. After some time, the plate umpire was asked for his thoughts. He said it's an out because the ground can't cause a fumble.

I was coaching some 9-10 year olds wayyyy back. My 3rd baseman's parents were doing the parent coaching and hollaring from the fence and my player asked me if he could go to Right Field to get away from them.

Many years ago I was helping coach a team of 8-9 year olds. I noticed our rightfielder kept turning his back to the infield and tugging at the front of his pants. I called time and went out to see what was going on. He had a bag of candy stuck in the top of his belt and was turning around to eat it so the other players could not get any. I had to take the candy away and the kid starting crying. All the parents thought I had done something to hurt him until I showed everyone the bag of candy. This is the same team that we had to call a time out any time an airplane flew over because we knew our fielders would be looking at the plane instead of the game!!!
