I saw a kid for Kerr Vance Academy get hit by a pitch three times in one at bat. The 1st time he was plunked the ump ruled he made no effort to get out of the way. The very next pitch he was again hit in the side but unbelieveable he swung at the pitch thus nullifying a trip to first. Lo and behold two pitches later he was again nailed in the shoulder finally EARNING his free trip to first.

How could I ever forget that trip to Greenville!

I take four 10 year old kids to Greenville with me and we end up staying in the Motel 9 days. I thought I was going to have to be admitted to the Funny Farm! I kid you not. Every day it rained and then they would get the field ready some how and we would play and then it would start raining again. I also remember that crazy comeback who could forget it. But I also remember getting ready to start a game in that tourney and our RF Travis Horn now the catcher at Northern Durham HS starts stumbling around in LF. Finally he just falls down flat on his back before the first pitch could be thrown. The coaches rush out to him not having any clue what could be wrong with him. Well a huge bumble bee had stung him on the forehead and he has a knot on his forehead the size of an egg. He had to be carried to the dugout! Sorry Henry and Travis but it was hilarious!

    Sunflower seeds anyone?

A couple of years ago we travel to ( ) HS to play a conference game. This team has probaly one three games in the last 10 years. After getting up on them around 15 to 0 I look in center field and the guy is sitting on his behind eating sunflower seeds. The left fielder yells "Hey give me some of those". The center fielder yells back "Come and get em". The left fielder runs to cf and is getting sunflower seeds from the guy while he is sitting on his behind during our guys ab. I kid you not. There is another poster here that was at the game.

We are playing the same team when Matt Harrison was pitching for us his sr year. The pro scouts call and want to know when Matt is scheduled to pitch again. I tell them Tuesday against this team but dont waste your time these guys are not very good in fact they are probaly the worse team in the nation. Well they say they could careless about the competition they are coming to see Matt. Well Tuesday rolls around and its 5 minutes to game time and this team has not showed. There are around 25 scouts in attendance and they have brought crosscheckers , regional scouting directors and they are really worried they are not going to see Matt pitch. I walk over to them and say "Dont worry they always show up right at game time". Well about that time they roll up in the bus. The coach gets off the bus and walks right to the homeplate meeting as his players are walking into the dugout. The homeplate umpire offers to allow them a few minutes to throw and stretch before the game. The coach says "Oh were fine we cant throw anyway and they never stretch before a game". During on ab a kid sees two straight 90 plus fb's he starts to walk back to his dugout. The umpire says son you only have two strikes. The kid laughs and says "Make it three I aint standing up there no more". After a five inning 30-0 game the scouts are amazed. All I could say was "I told you so".

I was at the "sunflower seed" game Coach 27 mentioned. There is no way to convey how funny that crowd is when it comes to baseball. The field has no fence, so if you one-hop the woods , you get a double. If you hit the woods in the air, homerun. The SS, and the 3B wrestled nearly the whole game when in the field. The dugouts are only about 10 ft. wide, so most of the players just sat outside on buckets & cinder blocks. No foul poles, and no lines painted. This particular game, the sitting sessions were long. Coach 27 forgot to mention that the 15-0 score was achieved after about the first 17 batters. Luckily the game was called after 3 innings at about 38-0.

2002 Little League Regional Championship Game. MARA vs Mint Hill. Game 2 of 3 game series. MARA had won game #1.

Here's the deal: Bottom of sixth inning (remember that little league games are only 6 innings) Mint Hill is up by three runs. Bases loaded with two outs,
the batter hit's a two hopper to the pitcher, the pitcher turns to first base and throws it away, ..... meanwhile everyone is still running... the right fielder, who was backing up the play, picks the ball up and throws it... to NO ONE, into the left field corner ... all four runs score..... game over!

In 2003, Watauga's Little League All Star team had a pitcher that started three different games in the district tournament, and in all three of his starts he opened up by walking a batter, letting up a hit, and letting up a 3 run home run. However, Watauga won all three of those games. By the third game after the home run was hit the Watauga players were pumped because they knew they were going to win.

That's the only time I've ever seen a coach happy when a pitcher lets off a 3 run bomb in the first inning.

This school would not happen to be located near your former home would it ? Have to drive down a dirt road to get to the baseball field ?
