Complete BS that they had to forfeit the entire season b/c of residency.

My word, that is complete and utter BS.

There are a lot of teams still playing that could have their season end for the very same reason. The difference here is that most people do it and keep it on the dl and don't go and get all official with it like that players parents did.

This is as bad, if not worse, than having 8 champions in football.

We got word of what had happened at East Forsyth. I can tell that the entire Crest community understands and we are thinking about those kids. It brought back all of the emotions of a couple years when Crest was pulled off the bus on the way to Grimsley. Just a tough situation.

and don t know all the facts yet someone didn t do their job to prevent this from happening. (1) Either a guidance counselor and more appropriately the (2) AD it is his repsonsibility period (3) before eligibility reports go in they have to be signed off from you bet VH herelf..and it is she who should have to pay for thesse kids and coachesw heartbreaking situation! Politician by position only other than that onky concerned about IMAGE and it is her image that is busted. Gorman ought to do what many have said for a long time but I doubt he will too sad@ I am sorry to the South Meck program which I have been following and what a great ride they were on.:ban:

Terrible situation, there are plenty of schools out there that are recruiting kids and getting away with it, and that is way worse than what happened here. This is BS no doubt about it.

It may just one of those deals. Crest was using the Cleveland County handbook when it happened to them. The handbook stated 3 out of 4 classes which the player did. They didn't met a new requirement that the school board had passed, but no one had gotten it in writing. They hadn't even changed on the Cleveland County Schools web-site. A school coun. noticed it and as soon as Crest found it, they reported it. The player from Crest that year would have been eligible in every county surrounding Cleveland.

There has to be some way to address this. Look at what happened to Byrd this year and having to forfeit their games. The field should be level. Some systems play by a certain set of rules while others do it another way. I know the state has a set standard, but the local LEA is able to add to it as they see fit. It should be universal across the board.

The real shame is the children that it affects.

Take this for what it's worth, but I've heard the kid in question had been living with his grandparents for a couple of years and the parents actually lived in Union county before they moved to Wilmington. He was living with the grandparents so he wouldn't have to play at Porter Ridge.

    Unfortunate...

Yes, it is a shame that the entire South Meck team had to forfeit their wonderful season. Yes, it appears to be an honest mistake that led to this situation. Yes, CMS handled this in a lousy way. And, yes, it smells like a scandal that was started by some nosey parent on a different team that was jealous of South Meck's success this season.

The thing that sticks out, and is probably somewhere at the heart of CMS's decision, is the amount of schools (4) that this young man has attended during his high school career. Any thoughts on that? How can going to a different school every year be positive for the kid academically? And, yes, it is legal....but is it good for the kid?
