My guess is that the only parents that will join the inferno with him would be the others who have kids not playing. for the most part the others will tell him to go bitch in the corner by himself. I would just talk to the player about his role and ask if he has any concerns and then just explain to him why his role is what it is.

In my very little experience it is always about the car ride home when the kid tells the dad he doesn't know why he has that role. Clear that up with the kid and if he understands that is all you should worry about. IMHO

I've coached for a long time and the stories I can tell. Here is how I handle it. I walk away if its about playing time. The know upfront I only talk to my players about that. If the kids want to talk to me, I'll spend lots of time with them and I'll be honest with them. After that the Parents and kids have a decision to make, they can continue on or find somewhere else to play. No hard feelings.

PLAYING TIME an issue in PAY-TO-PLAY BASEBALL??

I agree with the general consensus here that the parents should not harass the High School coach about their sons' playing time.
But what about the elite summer teams where the parents pay, in some cases, big bucks? Do these coaches also feel parents cannot talk with them about playing time??

One of the perks of being the Head Coach is that you don't have to worry about any of that playing time nonsense. Behind every daddy is a mommy ( and some granddaddy's & grandma's). And if they ain't happy, nobody is.

There is no right or wrong way to handle this but when i coached i had no problem talking to the kids and parent about anything and that included playing time. I realize that we want the kids to grow up and become young men but as a parent we are still responsible for them and their actions until they get 18 so meeting with the parent was no problem. With that said, i would tell the parent my honest evaluation and reasons and what he needs to do to earn more playing time. If they can except that, then we go on and if not, they have a decision to make because i wasn't changing my mind just because i talked to them and whatever decisions they made, i will understand. As for paying to play, be careful what you buy because you might not like the product. If you think you are going to play alot with the ELITE Showcase teams because you paid a lot of money, you are in for a rude awakening.

And you can not IMAGINE the restraint I'm using by not commenting.:lipsrsealed:

One thing... I try not to make a kid pay for parents mistakes/foolishness - cause I sure hope nobody ever makes my kids pay for any of my dumbidity. (I just don't like referring to myself with the "st" word!)

It also helps that your 300 lbs and over 6 feet tall!

Who the hell is going to say anything to you! lol

All kidding aside, I have know Moose for years and have witnessed how he coaches and handles issues like these. IMO .... he does it the right way!
