Today, Michael Bass of Fairmont High School was named a Wendy's High School Heisman National Finalist. He will now travel to New York City as one of the 12 National Finalist (one of six males) to celebrate and participate in the Awards Ceremony to name the National winners.

Michael is a 4-sport athlete and has started on the Varsity Football team for 3 years, Varsity Basketball team for 3 years, Varsity Baseball for what should soon be 4 years and Track for 4 years. He is even on the Bowling team this year so that makes 5 sports. The amazing part to me is that he is only 5'9" and weighs 140 lbs.

What I am most proud of is, he is ranked #1 in his class and will soon be completing the requirements for his Eagle rank in Boy Scouts.

Tomorrow, Michael will officially sign his National Letter of Intent to play baseball with UNC-W Seahawks!

I could not be more happy and proud of him.

    Exceptional Young Man

Congrats to Michael and to his family. My son had the opportunity to play with him in the State Games and could not say enough good things about his ability to play and his demeanor on and off the field. Coach Hood should get alot of credit for getting this young man early. We will be pulling for him at the next level. I believe he will get to attend the actual Heisman presentation. As parents you have every right to brag on this young man!!!! Again, congratulations for a job well done.

Maybe this should get a sticky and be at the top?

My son had the chance to play with him all this Fall and had great things to say about Michael! Snappy lil 2nd baseman! That is a great honor and we wish him nothing but the best at the awards, during this season and at UNCW!

    ????

I truly find it hard to believe that a kid can achieve such a high honor and only a few people have congratulated him. Even if you don't know the kid, it would have been nice to congratulate him on his hard work and dedication. This is a great board for information but when its not one of your own getting an award I guess it gets swept under the rug. Come on folks I know you are better than that. And Mom you have every right to be proud!!!!

Perhaps some found that they wanted to be personal and send a private message.

This is a young man that everyone can be proud of.

    I took

the opportunity to congratulate her personally. And I am sure many others did as well. I hope he wins the award. But regardless of the outcome he is already a big winner.
