    The 2009-2013 conferences have been approved by the state of north carolina.Freedom and Patton will be in the SMAC 3a/2a (South Mountain Athletic Conference with Shelby,Burns,Chase,RS Central and East Rutherford.Freedom will continue to play East Burke and Mcdowell in 2009 and will pick up Draughn and Hickory as well and possibly Alexander Central.East Burke and Draughn will join the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference (CVAC 2A) with Newton-Conover,Bandys,Maiden,Bunker Hill, and South Iredell.The 4a/3a conference which Includes Alexander Central,Watuaga,South Caldwell (4a schools),Hickory,Foard,St.stephens and Hibriten will be known as the Northwestern 4a/3a conference.I havent heard the name of the conference Mcdowell will be in but Im pretty sure it will still be called the Mountain Athletic Conference.

    i hate to see watauga not playing freedom we allways have played them even when i was in school and we was in the nw3a,i am glad we dont play acr in conference after this year,we still play them out of conference.i had rather play freedom or east burke.i think the new conference we will be in is pretty weak out side of hickory.
