Wow! I see on page one of the baseball forum mention of several players committing to play college baseball. Congrats to the player, his family and his coaches...all played a role in the player achieving such a fantastic milestone in their baseball journey. What I notice is the absence of notes of congratulations in response to the thread. Just a few years ago such an announcement would generate 8 to 15 comments (sometimes more) from TBR posters. Now I see several hundred views over many days on each thread and four with 0 responses, one with 1 response and one with 6 responses.

Like most things in life, TBR is fluid and ever changing....just seemed like there was more commentary in the good ol' days (not so long ago)....and a little more love for the hard-working players of distinction.

BTW...my son was a 2011 and he and I appreciated the kind words that came his way when it was his time.

I agree Low and Slow. There are alot of excellent ballplayers that have committed to some big-time schools -- however, very few people have responded with comments. I remember when my son committed in August of last year, you were one of the first to write some very encouraging words. All of these kids deserve as much recognition as the members on this board can provide.

Could it be that the folks today just don't know each other? When my son came through the high school ('07 grad), recruitment process and then college ball, we knew, or knew of, most all of the players in that same boat from all across the state. Heck, most of those kids had been playing with, or against, each other since the old AAU days when there were only a double handful of teams in each age bracket. The numbers lessoned as these kids got to the "showcase" age and most everyone knew each other on at least a "Tip of the cap" "Hey Bud" level with only a handful of teams here in NC.

I'm just glad we came through when we did, it was a fun ride!

I think the 2012s are the last group from the AAU teams so I only know a handfull of 13s. I think a lot of the posters on here are from those years so they don't have as much to say when a player commits.

The old traditional coaches here in the mountains that had kids that went on to play college ball have been replaced or retired. Outside of TC Roberson who always produces and now North Buncombe, who was trained by the old West Henderson coach, not much left. These young guys are really good baseball coaches but don't have the contacts that developed over the years. The guy at Tuscola is up and coming but it takes time. I can remember when I was blessed with a group from West Henderson coaching one summer that we had 11 guys on that team that went on to play college baseball. There are a lot of reasons that are holding baseball down here in the mountains and it all falls on school administrations. Not allowing use of fields etc.
