How about made the East squad for this year's State Games. Senior night was last Thursday for his HS team. Startin' to get a little depressed, the door is shutting on this part of his baseball career. On the bright side, the door on the next stage is just starting to crack open...Go Braves!

    finally.....

my boy makes his 2nd plate appearance of the season and on an 0-2 count with two down he proceeds to launch a bases clearing double off the left field wall for an exclamation point to all! Moved the score to 13-0 in win over North Henderson at their place. The Panthers move to 9-9 on the season, and 5-6 in the conference (I think). On top of that he is named the Wayah Group Insurance Player of the Game by our local radio station broadcasting the game. As I have always tried to instill in him, my students, my players, my coaches and all that patience is an underrated virtue and good things happen to good people! Boy I am proud:earmuffs:

not a son but James Cloud for LKN started his first game all yr on his senior night last night. He went 2-4 and hit a hr. great job for him in his last game at home. James is normally a pitch runner for pitcher/catcher. so very proud of him.

had teh toughest baseball night of his life . . . and I couldn't be prouder of him

played in the biggest game for his school in years, conference title on the line, overflow crowd, he's on the mound, hitting 5th, and wants to win more than he's ever wanted anything in his young life. You know what they say about the best laid plans . . . It just wasn't my son's night. He doesn't have his best stuff, gets squeezed by the umpire, ends up as the losing pitcher, has a home run robbed on a spectacular play by the left fielder, and strikes out to end the game. AND I've never been prouder of him in my life. He and his teammates fought, clawed, and scratched their way back into the game (4-4 in the 6th) and my son gutted it out on the mound (the loneliest place in the world sometimes) and gave his team a chance to win. After the game he had nothing left, it was all out there on the field. So what's a father to do. Upon the advice of a very wise man and to the chagrin of his girlfriend, I took my son to dinner, watched a basketball game, and told him I loved him. Its a night he'll want to forget, but I'll always remember.

Great post! It's easy for us as parents to place such high expectations on our "kids". Life is not about going 4-4 at the plate or tossing a perfect game on the mound (although those are great memories), it's about how you respond to adversity. He will in time forget what happened in the game, but will remember that his dad was still there to "pick him up and dust him off". That's what you call a "life lesson", well done!
