No...according to the baseball cards, I'm referred to as "vintage". On the other hand, Prepster is better known as "BA"...and that's not for Belmont Abbey.

And Dbacks, do you still have that picture of you spiking Ty Cobb?

Man o man, if you guys are vintage and ancient, I must be dead! When I was growing up, we played whatever sport was in season. Never had the opportunity to play travel ball as well as having trainer's for whatever sport.

I think today's athlete is better than when I was young, but the opportunities to get better (with trainers & such) are there. I was a pitcher and could throw the ball in the upper 80's, but the problem I had was that there was no one that could fine tune my mechanics like the kids have today. As ya'll know, that is a MAJOR advantage today.

While my son loves to compete and play the game, and as long as he wants to play, I will continue to give him all the support that he will need, as long as it is still enjoyable for him. Once the fun stops, then I don't think I would have anything more to worry about.

By the way, spring practice is only a couple of months away!

No Contest.....If you are talking all levels of play including the major leagues. Can you imagine todays players having to step in the box against Bob Gibson? I mean Gibson would buzz you for looking at him the wrong way. I'm sure there are plenty of other situations one can think of like this. Chipper Jones said he cannot imagine how Babe Ruth did what he did. Drinking, smoking cigars, womanizing all night long til sometimes morning. Then going out the next game and performing at the level he did. You got to remember to that back then there were no night games, most of the games were played with a Noon or 1:00PM start time. Now, talent wise todays players I'm sure have more talent but thats all they have to do is train and play from the time they are eight years old through high school. We had to get our chores done before we could ever pick up that one wooden bat we had. By the way....for the younger players,"chores" was a list of manual labor type activities that was done before play and not until.
