    Recruiting

Great idea Enka! AC Fan knew I had to add my two cents worth, hard to keep me quiet. Ha Ha!

One thing we need to all remember is that coaches recruit U not schools. Keep your academics as first priority and the schools will also persue U! Important should U get injured, lose your love for softball, coach leaves school.

Visit the schools U are interested in more than once! Watch a game, see how the coach acts under the pressure of a game and when he or she faces adversity.

Talk to the players about the coach, practice schedules, organization skills, dedication to their job, and dedication to the student athlete.

What does the school have to offer and how far from home do I really want to be?

U will not always be recruited by your top five choices, are U willing to sacrifice your school choices to play softball?

What are your expectations? D-1, D-11, D-111? Have U watched games at all levels and really honestly evaluated your talent and skills?

Ask other travel coaches about college coaches, we sometimes know many of them personally or have seen them in many game situations. I have learned a great deal over the past four years, some good, some bad. Coaches can be completely different after the recruiting process is over.

The travel coaches I have met, all want to help girls acheive their goals, does not matter which team they play for, most give ready advise.

Lastly, make sure U are willing to give up 20-24 hours a week just to practice softball. Also, U will have to be willing to get up early, run, lift weights, work out, and still do well in class, year round. U are basically an employee of the college U attend and are expected to perform for the scholarship money U receive. If U have the desire and love of the game, it can be a great experience! Do your homework before U choose the college and it will be a great experience. Good luck to all the 2005 ladies that have signed and best to 2006 as U prepare for an important summer. I did not have 10 either but hope this helps some of U.
