    Winthrop / Canada recruiting connection

I'm fairly new to the board and for the most part just read and not post....but I believe the Winthrop / Canada connection can be easliy explained by the fact that one of his assistant coaches is from that area of Canada. She is simply recruiting from her own back yard. She is even an assistant coach for the Canadian Junior Women’s Softball National Team.

I could be wrong on this one but I have believed for a couple of years now that coach Cooke has found an easy path to some quality players and is riding that train as far as it will take him. If recent history is any indication it has been a pretty smooth ride thus far.

I don't believe anybody faults him for choosing the recruiting path he takes. It's been successful for him and that's great. It's this statement that creates a burr under one's saddle:

I was told he likes Canadians because of their work ethic and fundamentals. They spend a lot of time inside during the cold months and they work on basics ALOT. He also does not want Mom and Dad in his ear when DD is not getting to play, (straight from the horses mouth).

I am friends with many, many college coaches and I have never known one to spend any time worrying about the parents. It's just not a concern....and certainly not one that would be expressed to others outside the program.

I was just repeating what I heard. It was my post that stated the info about Canada. I didn't intend to shake any cages. His program is successful so how can you fault him? I just take it and learn from it. Everything I have read says that the Coach wants to deal with the player and not the parents. If my daughter gets a shot at playing, I intend to keep my mouth shut.

Unbelievable...so are you saying that your quote "I heard it from the horses mouth." is not true? That you only repeated something you heard? Wow...why did you post that?

I posted what I had heard, just as my post said, because someone was asking about Winthrop. I thought that is what we do here.....
