    Jerrod Moore - Person High

Jerrod "The Cat" Moore senior pitcher at Person High in Roxboro,NC. As Coach27 has stated in the past this kid is a bulldog on the mound. Has the heart of a champion, never wants to give up the ball. I had the privledge of coaching Jerrod in little league and he and Robbie have played against each other or together since T-Ball. Another plus he comes from a great family and he is a great person as well as ballplayer. Jerrod is 6' 185lbs. has pitched 25.30 innings with 34 K's against 7 walks. He has a .463 batting average. .805 slugging percentage and a .511 on base percentage with 3 home runs and 15 RBI's. Can play anywhere in the infield when not pitching except catcher. They say the human body is 80% water, when Jerrod Moore is on the mound his body is 80% heart.

    Pitchers

We have seen some good ones this year. No doubt there are some outstanding pitchers all across the state this year. Some are no brainers like Morris Bumgardner Thrailkill White etc. But the most underated guys I have seen are Mac Reed and Jerrod Moore. These guys can flat out pitch. Two guys you never want to face, period! Moore has outstanding controll of three pitches and can make good hitters look like bad hitters. Reed is just flat out nasty with his ability to change speeds and hit his spots on everything in his arsenal. Both have baseball savy and never give in. And most of all they are outstanding young men that repect the game and their opponents. No doubt they will both make some college program very happy in the near future.

    Madison Bumgarner

That's right SCHSJVBALL4 on Madison Bumgarner, junior at SCHS. Scouts have been amazed at how he has thrown consistently in the 90's throughout the whole game. He is a powerful left-handed pitcher. And yes he has been clocked at one of these games at 95. Believe it or not, the fans did not clock him - scouts did.

    Pitchers

Madison Bumgarner's ERA is .20 as recorded on web site. His batting average is .476, that includes 5 homeruns. So, he is not only a pitcher, but a great hitter. Last game, they did not want to pitch to him, just put him on base. That's O.K., South has alot of great hitters. I believe a grand slam was hit right after that.

    Bumgarner/Gibbs/Johnson/Rothlin

Madison Bumgarner (LHP)- Junior at South Caldwell. This kid is the real deal. I know its hard to believe but he was clocked at 96 in the 7th inning this year by a SCOUT, not a parent. I am very good friends with the scout and that was coming directly from him. The amazing thing was that he hit 97 three times and even hit 98 once in that game!!! Very consistent and a no doubt top draft pick. Madison is around 6'6".
Ben Gibbs (RHP)- Junior at Hickory High School. Ben is a very solid pitcher. He does not have the velocity as Bumgarner, Johnson, and Rothlin do, but he hits his spots extremely well and keeps hitters off balance. He is a big kid around 6'4 235 lbs.
Patrick Johnson (RHP)- Junior at St. Stephens High School. Patrick is the smallest out of these four around 5'9". His size does not effect him when it comes to throwing a baseball. Was clocked at 94 once this year by a scout and is a consistent 88-92 mph pitcher.
Trent Rothlin (RHP)- Junior at Fred T. Foard. Trent also is a tremendous pitcher who has already committed to Clemson. Trent is throwing 90-92 pretty consistently and has a very dirty slider. Trent can also hit his spots very well and stamina does not seem to be a problem for him. Trent is around 6'2".

PS- All four of these pitchers played AAU ball together for the Catawba Valley Storm from age 10-14. Gibbs and Rothlin are going up against each other tonight at 7 at Hickory High School.

    I remember them

As a HS coach I spent one summer a few years back coaching AAU. My youngest son now a soph played up in the 12u AAU group with the Durham Diamondbacks. I can remember watching our guys play against all the kids now mentioned here. We had Justin Duncan Jacob Ezzell now starring at Riverside HS , Cam Falcon Northern Durham , Steele Myers Sean Madden Allan Schlitz now at Durham Jordan , Jeff May Chris Luck and Pratt Maynard South Granville on our team. We were very good and finished in the top 12 in the nation with May Maynard and Myers playing up as 11 yr olds. But I stood in awe watching the talent on several of those teams around NC. Justin Jackson , Bumgardner, Holt Parmer and Merrifield on the Davie Bo Sox , and all the above mentioned players on the Catawba Valley Storm team. Then there was the South Wake Storm with Quincy Lattimore and Jon McLamb and others as well. I could see that the crop of talent in the 07 and 08 class's of NC was second to none period. That year at the AAU Nationals 12u four teams from NC finished in the top 12 in the nation. And the following year we went back as 12 year olds and finished 4th in the nation with 3 teams finishing in the top 10 in the nation. It is a very special group of players from all across the state. There are many more that I did not mention but it was evident back then that they were going to be very good and they are. These teams as 12 year olds would have beaten alot of JV teams right then.

Yes, that Storm team was loaded, I will give a quick rundown on the main players coming from that ONE team.

Greg Baker (HHS)- Small D1, DII (Hitting around .300, great arm behind the plate)
Derek Boliek (HHS)- Big D1 (Kills the ball, hit .460 as sophomore, hitting above .500 this year, great speed, knows the game as good as anyone)
Madison Bumgarner(SCHS)- First rounder(Amazing pitcher, as good as they come around here, can also swing the stick- around a .20 ERA right now)
Ben Gibbs (HHS)- D1 (Good location pitcher-won't blow you away, but hits his spots, 4-1? on the year)
Dustin Harrington (ACHS)- Big D1(Hits the ball very well, great defensive player too)
Patrick Johnson(SSHS)- Big D1 (Great arm, good offspead, and not a bad hitter)
Trent Rothlin (FTF)- Clemson committ, possible draft pick (Great velocity, nasty slider, 5-0? on the season)

As you can see, this Storm team produced some pretty good players, not to mention some other players in the Storm organization- Cameron Maybin, Wes Williams, Justin Jackson, Brian Corbett
