The Sutton twins from eastern NC several years ago were tough.

Matt and Marc Sutton from Greene Central. Graduated 2002. They were special. Matt played at UNCW, and I think had some off the field issues, not sure though. And I want to say Marc played at Lousiburg. Could be wrong though.

I don't think Cal Hayes has been mentioned. Injuries derailed his pro career, but the former 3rd round pick was the fastest player I have seen in a long time. Could hit for average, power, and was incredible in the field and on the bases.

Heck yeah, you're right about Lovett. Speaking of crushing the baseball...

Jon Willard (Green Hope - USC - Chipola JC - USC) hit a ball during a legion game back in 2002-2003 or so in Gastonia that may still be in orbit. Willard could mash.

I am getting goosebumps just reading these lists!
All you can say is WOW! WOW!, and WOW! as you read all these names.
It is an impossible task tolist the actual ten best of the past decade, but WOW! what a collection of NC studs.

Alex White... few people know that he could/can absolutely rake, too
Kevin Hodges... filthy on the mound and very intimidating look
Sean Armstrong... pitching in HS when he was healthy, was ridiculous.
Lonnie Chisenhall... never saw a pitch he couldn't hit... and hit hard.
Many others I am sure, but these pop immediately to mind.

I have heard legendary stories of others, but never got to see them play.

Richy "Deuce" Stretchlon... Found the -3 bats to his disadvantage, but the lil guy mixed the best gatorade on the planet and took his dedication to his craft into umpiring. :cartman:

Ahh….Richie Stretchlon, the Eddie Gaedel of NC baseball.. That sure brings back a lot of memories. It was amazing to see the ‘lil guy crouch down in the batters box looking like one of those e-trade babies. His bat looked like a club in his infant-like hands, but what quickly caught your attention was his base running skills. Standing on the base, Richie looked like Mario Brothers, but it didn’t take him long to generate speed with his pigeon-toed gait and was near impossible to throw out…simply because the catcher couldn’t see him.

Yes, Richie “Deuce’ Stretchlon was one of the all time fun players to watch.
