Eastern Guilford High School was completely destroyed by fire yesterday. Fortunately no students were injured. I thought I would put the link to a local TV station so you could see the story of this tragedy.

Our prayers go out to the students, staff and community that surrounds this high school. There will be many difficulties ahead for them as they try to complete the school year.

It's unbelievable. Have there been discussions on where the students will attend?

I've heard possibly SE Guilford and NE Guilford, but with overcrowding already such a problem, it's going to be tough to keep from spreading the students over several different schools. It is amazing that so many schools are without sprinkler systems.

Demolition continues on school, Greensboro News-Record

Photos from today and yesterday, Greensboro News-Record

Greensboro College, Guilford Technical Community College and UNC Greensboro have all offered classroom space. Greensboro College had puchased the Price School in Greensboro from the school system earlier this year and has not begun any renovations to it yet. That is one possibility. Also, one idea that makes some sense is that Northern High School was to open after January 1 to removed some of the overcrowding in the county, it's ready to go. Some in that area have suggested to move EGHS there until a new high school could be rebuilt, which is estimated to take 2-1/2 years. Of course that doesn't solve any overcrowding but makes a lot of sense. (Which means it won't be done, LOL!) The kids want to remain together and I think the school board honestly wants to do that if at all possible.

As for the sports teams, GCS Athletic Director Herb Goins has stated that Eastern Guilford will continue to field teams in all sports. Several middle schools have offered their facilities for games.

A fire restoration service cleaned up all the football equipment today (which was not damaged) and the Wildcats will play as scheduled tomorrow at Southern Guilford.

There will be a lot of people rooting for Eastern Guilford across Guilford and Alamance counties Friday night!

    Go Wildcats!

I also heard on talk radio Friday morning that if people wanted to donate things to the school (ie... used band instruments, etc...) there would be places to donate those types of things. I understand that the band lost most if not all of its equipment, etc... I am sure there are other needs also.
