The Watauga community and the baseball team in particular have been rocked by a senseless tragedy. Drew Newell, a former ballplayer for Pete Hardee, was killed and his father has been sent to a trauma center and is said to be in a coma. Drew's sister and mother have been treated for injuries but have been released.

They were returning from the Watauga football game Friday night when a drunk driver rear ended them pushing their car 200 feet into oncoming traffic.

I have heard from many people what an outstanding young man Drew was. I pray for his family and to all of the people in Watauga that know the Newell's. I pray specifically for Mr. Newell's complete recovery. I know that Coach Hardee is deeply affected by this tragedy as are Drew's friends and teammates. My condolences to everyone involved.:angelsad2:

The prayers of the Rocket Baseball Family go out to the Newell family. ONly through the strength that is provided by God will you get through this. I cannot imagine the pain that is being endured, but God's loving hand will help heal your hearts in his time.

To those who are friends of the family. Your love and support will help them endure. Show them all the love and support you can!! LOVE THEM!

Wanted to give everyone an update. below you will see the email that came from their church. Great news!!

JUST GOT A CALL FROM SALLIE
she said that she and jackie came back to boone last night (jackie has a doctor's appt. today-dentist, actually). brianne and josh stayed in johnson city last night. brianne called sallie this morning with huge news...
brian is OFF of the ventelator and is breathing ON HIS OWN. he is awake and becoming more alert. brianne held the phone to his ear so sallie could talk to him. brianne told sallie that brian reacted to hearing sallie's voice and turned his head toward the phone, and also began to move his mouth like he wanted to speak, but at this point is unable...the effects of sedation are still somewhat present.
this is GREAT news and a victory in prayer for this family. let us all continue to pray for COMPLETE healing.
i will be in touch with them throughout the day and will pass along news as i get it.
    blessings
    Vern
thanks vern-PLEASE PASS THIS WORD ON, IT IS VERY VERY ENCOURAGING
