Where do you get your ideas for practices? Do you have any drills that work better than others? How about ideas for 1 on 1 training with dad to keep it interesting? I've recently started charting and recording errors and timing base running so that she can have goals to improve upon.

Stats Sometimes Puts Too Much Pressure On Kids !!

How old is your kid ?? We start all our practices with streching then some agility. Throwing progression, go into infield / outfield, next situation drills, then hitting stations...we always end up with some type of game or thought question that they have to figure out as a team. We talk about eating / drinking things that are good for you ,and how much rest is required for the body. We are constantly educating our kids for their mental and physical part of their game. How important exercise is for bone mass in girls to regenerate to help prevent osteoporosis during their latter years. We work on bad attitudes if there is one, and hope to present positive and not negative thoughts why on and off the field. We promote comradery ,and not I , but we are a team, and we need each team member to function and do it's job. We promote having fun,and learning to breathe at the plate, not to be tensed, and learning to just have fun !!

She's 11. She is very aggressive at 10u but is having difficulty transitioning to 12u. She plays short, 3rd, and 2nd in 10u and goes after everything with a vengence. Footwork and abiltiy to field the ball cleanly is phenomonal. We've made a few teams 12u practices this fall and she tends to play further back than normal, not charge the ball and avoid centering the ball if it's hit harder than she's use to seeing at 10u. I plan to spend the winter working on every aspect of the game with her. I've just started looking for a quality hitting coach so that I can move her to the left side of the plate. Based on some work we've done in the back yard, I believe she can hit equally off both sides, maybe even stronger at left. I'm fairly new to all of this but recognize that she is very talented. I believe with the right training she can become a very special player. I've decided to lay off going to potential teams practices until spring. If she works hard all winter I believe she'll be better prepared mentally for 12u tryouts.

    Throwing

.....Hey folks, long tossing increases velocity. Its hard not to include that drill at all age groups.

.....Star drill, sorry, I know LOTS of ya'll know this gig but for those who are new to it, here we go....a fielder is placed at each infield postion, the rest of the team lines up in the coaches box at first base, now follow me here, 1b throws to SS and then "follows her throw", yep, 1b runs to ss, then the SS throws to the catcher, ...and the SS follows her throw to the catcher and is now in that infield postion, the catcher throws to 2b,....yep, she follows the ball to 2nd, then 2b throws to 3b, follows, and 3b throws to the next kid in line in the coaches box who has moved into 1B

For new teams and teammates, we'de have each kid throw and yell out the kids name they were throwing to. Make sure you've got a few back up balls ready to go into the star because there will be missed catches, over throws, etc.
....BTW, running through the middle of the infield while the ball is being chucked all around will open up the players eyes quick!

I'm out of breath just posting this gig. More later.

Marlin's drill is hard enough to get girls to run right (the first time you run it) when you're just doing this around the bases. I shudder to think about going across the diamond.

    1 ball at a time

It may get a little difficult if you try to do more than 1 or 2 at a time.
