to borrow the words of a song.........

    "sounds like life to me".

so you start a softball "organization" without the commitment of a practice field?

    Fields

How about trying to get some company fields. I know there are several fields in RTP. You may be able to get on them by signing a waiver. I would think there are companies in Raleigh with fields to. You might check elementary schools that have fields. They are not softball fields but with some work and probably lest resistance they would work.

Mom2BallGrlz, yes I am very familiar with what you are dealing with in Wake Forest and Rolesville. I had dealings, or tried to have dealings with the recreation departments there when I worked at MVP Sports Center in Wake Forest. They are not interested in doing anymore than they have to do in their departments. Tried to coordinate softball clinics/camps with them, using high level coaches and players, and they wanted nothing to do with it. Good luck with field endeavors.

Softball Guru, tried that route as well, but that was a no go as well. We all ready have Wake County Public Schools added as an additional insured on our insurance, but even with that they will not eliminate the fee.
#7’s Dad, I myself do not know of any church fields in Raleigh/Wake County, but will certainly research that further. Any recommendations appreciated.

SoftballPhreak, yes I am aware of the fields you mentioned. We have players that drive up to 3 hrs+ to practice, so we always make sure we have a guaranteed field to practice on when we schedule something. The rates are less for recreation fields, but still add up. They are hard to officially reserve when rec ball is going on as well. Thanks for the info.

East of Raleigh, I didn't just start my organization yesterday. Had it for several years now. We will always find fields and a away to practice. That had nothing to do with the post. Purpose of the post was for a much greater good and something to discuss with others since this is a discussion board. Keep your cheap shots to yourself.

I'm not familiar with the Raleigh area but do know that many manufacturing companies and churches in North Carolina had travel teams back in the day. Most of the teams had their own fields for practice and to host games. The townships have taken over some of the fields but for the most part many fields are still standing but may need some TLC. Before my daughter started playing I would've never recognized fields as we drove by. There's 1 at a church 1/2 mile from my house that I never noticed because at the time there was no interest in the sport. I'm certain that there are a bunch of fields close to you that you can use but haven't been found yet.

here in virginia i got sick and tired of trying to find a field. so i just made my own with utility poles from power company. i got chain length fence from dump that perfectly good wire that the school threw away. only money i have in it are the bases and i now need to get new ones of those. its a pain to find the time to mow it when you already have a big yard to mow. but its well worth it after you have it built.
