The chalk line is always part of the area being delineated.

A fly ball that never touches the ground but is trapped between the arm and the body is NOT an out. TRUE or FALSE?

This is false, at least in ASA. I'm not sure about NFHS.

(But... you can't use it as a weapon :laugh4: )

TRUE, but... It is not caught until the player controls it in her hand or glove. Once that happens it is an out.

    Actually, the ASA book states

(my NFHS book is buried somewhere at the moment)

Anyway, this puts the onus on the defense to get there before the runner does.

Don't get me wrong, I've heard "tie goes to the runner" lumped in as a "false myth" too. However, IMHO, the rules actually support it. The defense must win the race.

Saw this missed a week ago. The plate was in a depression such that the ball couldn't really roll off the point. It was stopped there when the catcher picked it up, and the ump called foul.

I've never read the rule but I had it explained to me when an umpire called our runner out. Doesn't make much sense to carry the bat that far anyway. But it does make sense to have a rule that says you can't keep your bat with you on the bases.
