    There are reasons

that some programs do not have alot of guys tryout each year. Sometimes the word gets out early that you are going to have to work very hard to be a part of a program. The word gets out that it is very demanding and it takes alot of dedication. The players that already know they are not willing to make this type of investment do not even bother to come out.

I know the coaches at your sons HS work very hard and require the players work very hard as well Putt. Maybe most of these kids made the decision not to start something they already knew they did not want to be a part of? Sometimes low turnouts for tryouts are a sign that a program is doing the right things.

Thank God there weren't 21 trying out!

or Kevin would have been standing in the parking lot with his trousers around his ankles!:22_yikes:

But other times, low turnouts for tryouts are a sign of the wrong things being done.:couch:

What you say is true. We had 3 talented freshmen not come out because of the work commitment required. None of them wanted to do the off-season work or even commit to being there every day. One was a LHP with great velocity and movement. My son went by his house many times in the off-season offering to catch for him and he would not come out. I can't understand why some would rather play a video game vs. getting out with your friends and practicing baseball. Just the comradiere (sp) of being together and working together is worth it.

I know it’s hard for us to understand but some guys just have different paths. We had a very strong centerfielder with a strong consistent bat and I did I mention fast. Really really fast!! Played travel with our guys for five +years. The kid was not lazy. Worked hard in baseball and basketball. He simply choose a different path and the one he choose has nothing to do with sports but he is doing great for himself. Just not his thing no matter how bad I hate it.

I understand that. You see it even more in college. College will certainly test one's commitment to baseball. For some, if they don't have the passion to keep playing, they will find other things to do.

Red Bear and Strike-um-out, your sitaution may be different than ours. Our coaches work their butts off and are knowledgable on the game and good instructors. They're always willing to stay late or come out on weekends which takes time away from their families. And they work hard with the players in the off-season. They're not perfect but they are passionate. Have they ever confused me or frustrated me? Sure, but we always resolve it. I wouldn't trade them. After reading here about many other situations I realize that at the end of the day we are fortunate to have them.
